I still want the clear frosted jelly one from Nurse Mates but OH.MY.GOSH....I just went to several different websites to show it to my husband and every single website either said the watch was sold out or the webpage was expired (when I clicked the link(s) that I had shared here) or sorry, this item is no longer available!!!! I'm getting some fierce competition for this watch! I finally found it...think I'm gonna order it ASAP!!!

Water zumba sounds fun Nikki! I LOVE the pool; I used to be a lifeguard and a swim instructor and before that I was on the swim team so I'm like a fish! I'd rather swim laps though for a workout but everyone I know who has done zumba in the gym absolutely swears by it!

What kind of work out do you do Kristian? I like to do videos since I can't really get to the gym most days with my son. I like to do The Firm workout DVDs. I have quite a few of them that work different areas of the body. They work great...I'm always really sore the next day and I can always see and feel a difference if I stick with it for more than a week. The problem is actually doing it for that long! Lol

Just ordered it! :) I went with this one mostly because it's waterproof, silicone, and has a back light. I hope they don't have a problem with it being digital. My husband said I have to keep it clean or it will start showing dirt easily because it's clear, but hopefully it'll be enough that I'll be washing my hands all the time. I'll just have to remember to wipe it down at the end of the day with a Lysol wipe or something.

I hope you got that watch Andrea!

I do the Insanity workouts, the best program I've ever done. Truly improves cardio, strength and flexibility...push ups, pull ups, no problem now!

LOL...yes Kristian, I ordered it! :)

Have you guys decided if you're gonna get a separate bag for clinicals? I've read a few posts on here about them; some say there's no designated area for nursing students to put their belongings so they just pile them all onto one of the chairs in a waiting area (crazy, I know!); another said they put them all together somewhere in the nurse's locker room; and still another said they weren't allowed to bring valuables inside. I looked in the nursing student handbook but couldn't find anything about personal belongings at clinical facilities. Something to ask about at registration...

Is this more or less what we should be looking for as a "small pocket notebook"? I'm guessing we should get more than one for the semester since we'll probably be writing down almost everything we hear in clinicals.

I think I'll be to using the same bag for clinicals. I wonder if we'll have an answer @ registration about having a locker or a secured area to store our stuff.

And yes, the 3" by 5" notebook should be around the size we need. Is $4.49 a good price for a 5pk? I wouldn't be surprised if we go through 20 of those during a semester!

I don't think $4.49 is too bad for a 5-pack. The thing about spirals though is while they're convenient and easy to use, they tend to come apart easily. Not sure if I wanna go with spiral...I'm sure we'll be referring to these clinical notes all the time and I want something that's going to last. But then again, how many options do we really have in a pocket notebook??

Back to the great clipboard debate: Do you think we'll be allowed to use one? I really want to get one if we will be allowed. I think it will just help me keep everything organized 1,000 times better; I'll have something to write on at all times; and I can have storage for pens/pencils, a small calculator, my nursing handbook, etc. I posted a purple one before that was just a basic storage clipboard...nothing fancy about it. Here's another one I found that seems to have more organization compartments, but it's also a bit more expensive. But some of the reviews were from nurses and nursing students and they said it was a great product:

Oooh...just found this one and it has a calculator. One review from a nursing student who says it's the best!

I just sent Professor Matthews an e-mail asking if we would be allowed to carry a clipboard during clinicals and also if there would be a designated area for us to store personal belongings during clinicals. Hopefully she gets back to me before the weekend cuz the clipboard I want only has 1 left in stock...

I think I'm gonna just get a regular Jansport backpack, although I'll probably get one that has 2 large pockets so I can store my laptop in one of them. The rolling backpacks are just too expensive for me right now. And I would really only need it if I had all 3 classes in one day, which is not my first choice schedule (still hoping for a good number at registration!). The regular backpacks are around $30 which is much more reasonable for me. I think I'm gonna go for this one:

I saw that watch yesterday while I was looking around Andrea. It looks so much like one of the timex watches, available in a purple color I might add. One link I saw was less than $20 but it was sold out. The timex one had fancy extras that I didn't think I would need so I just got that blue one (same styling as the black and pink one).

As for the clipboard...my motto going in is KISS. I don't think we will really need anything more than what is on the equipment list and the watch and scrubs. I would say, if ya can't put it in your pockets, you don't need it.

I like all the color/pattern options on the jansport daypack. Which one did you go with?

I was thinking of emailing Prof. M and asking how early people usually show up on registration day. I had planned 1.5 hours beforehand but I'm wondering if that will be early enough. I don't mind getting there early. It gives me peace and quiet (i.e. no kids) and I can just read a book.

Well I wrote Prof. M and she responded. Told me there is no need to arrive sooner than 10 minutes before registration starts. I don't understand this. I wanted to inquire more but I am afraid I will annoy her.

ok, well i emailed her anyway...

me:

thank you for your speedy response. although, i don’t understand how arriving earlier wouldn’t be beneficial if those who get the better lottery number receive priority choosing?

prof. m:

there is usually a smaller number of students that come on time – so if only 20 students come on time their lottery number will be 1-20 getting first options for clinical. the ones coming in late will be getting the larger numbers. just come a few minutes earlier.

i'm surprised to hear this.
