Montgomery College, Fall 2011, 1st semester students

Published

Here is our new thread ladies (Nikki, Andrea, Kristian, Marissa...and whoever else will be starting at MC this fall).

No I was wondering if I should splurge to get a color I THINK I like looking at the photo online. Or if I should just go with a plain brown and save $20.

What are the color choices? I'll go to the link...

You know Andrea will vote for the purple. The brown is nice-a rich chocolate, I like it. If you get the brown that'll be more $ for other stuff.

Ya, that was what I was about to purchase before your last message. I like the purple online and but what if I don't when it comes (yes, I know it can be returned) but purple is also a fad color right now so maybe I won't like it 2 months from now. :-) Thanks for the input!

Yeah, I like purple too but for a backpack or bag I'd personally go w/ a more neutral color-more versatile.

WOW!! That new hospital looks like it would be a dream to work in! I just looked it up Nikki: Holy Cross is not YET a magnet hospital but they are definitely striving for it...Although magnet hospitals greatly prefer BSNs, I think they do still hire ADNs under special circumstances (not sure what they are though).

Nikki, that SUCKS about your book! I would be so angry! I hope you get your full refund and/or are able to get another book in time.

I don't think I'm going to use my laptop in classes, but I'll most likely bring it with me to school so I can type up notes, etc. in between classes. And I will most definitely be bringing a voice recorder!

Oh my gosh Nikki, that backpack looks amazingly perfect! AND it comes in purple ;) LOVE IT!

Kristian, if I were you I probably wouldn't go for a new job right now. With school and taking care of your parents during the week, I would be worried about not having enough time to dedicate to studying. But that's just me. You may be better at time management than I am lol! But I know that with everything I have to do around the house and still trying to be a good mommy, I'm definitely not taking on any other commitments for the next 2 years. You could always do what Nikki said: try it out and if it does interfere, you could quit. Not sure about the benefit of the experience; I think ANY work experience is good, especially in this economy, but specifically for a job in nursing? I couldn't say. I feel like the only experience they'd care about is prior nursing experience (and that could include CNA or LPN), but I could be wrong.

Nikki, I'm so sorry to hear about your rough morning! I totally LOL'd when I read your comment about all the "fun" things my son and I do! Don't get me wrong, we usually do have fun BUT there's always some kind of minor tantrum that goes along with it. My son is a very sensitive kid also, although he has never been diagnosed with anything. He is usually a very happy kid, but when he gets mad...WATCH OUT!!! I mean, it's kinda scary. He actually starts shaking and clenches his teeth and fists and it scares the heck outta me! I don't know what to expect during the teenage years...He also can get really sad; especially recently he's been having separation anxiety from his dad. Not sure where this really came from but it started after my son and I went to Ocean City for Memorial Day weekend and my husband had to stay home for work. We were gone 4 days and 3 nights; since we got back, he cries when Daddy has to go to work and has these long drawn-out good-byes with him and gets mad at me if I say something "mean" to Daddy. I wanna be like "GIMME A BREAK!!! Who does everything for you all day long??? ME!!!!" Lol

How old is your son? Swimming lessons can be kind of boring to tell you the truth. I know this as a former swim instructor. Most of the time, the child is sitting or standing against the wall waiting for his turn because there's only one instructor and several children, the instructor can really only give attention to one at a time. Maybe your son is bored? Maybe private lessons would be better for him? Has he tried any other sports? My son has done soccer and T-ball and seemed to enjoy both although his attention span NEVER lasted the entire practice. But he's 4 and that's to be expected. As long as you're exposing him to new and challenging things, I think you're doing a great job. If you get frustrated watching him (and hubby and I definitely did sometimes, especially when he would have more fun playing with grass and butterflies than listening to the coach), then taking your younger son to the park in the meantime would probably be better for both of you. Just see how it goes for one session.

As for the news about your dad, I'm so sorry. This year has really sucked for all of us in terms of receiving bad news about the health of our family members. I really hope he decides to get some kind of treatment, it may end up better than he expects. If you got some statistics for him, do you think he'd consider it more?

LOVE the color on that High Sierra backpack Nikki BUT I also liked the previous one you posted. I love Jansport but I really like the High Sierra purple better! Now I'M gonna be struggling with this! Lol

I agree with Kristian about bringing a copy of your packet to registration, just in case. I would definitely think that if there were any problems, they would contact us beforehand. I haven't emailed to ask if she got my packet; I'm sure she's swamped. I may just email her to ask if it's ok that I put my packet in the box that was INSIDE the office, cuz the fact that there were two boxes just makes things confusing for me somehow lol.

Kristian, you're right about the backpack being neutral. I kinda like the black and white one:

The reviews are phenomenal so you know it's gonna last. That purple plaid one looks EXACTLY like the messenger bag I have! Lol

Hey Andrea, thanks for your input. Yeah, starting a new job right now w/ school and responsibilities to my parents will def. make things harder. I'm struggling w/ this decision-wanna make a financial contribution.

I like the black and white backpack too. Man, those bags look huge though! I say this now but watch me have bag envy come start of classes cuz mine isn't large enough to fit what I need and I'll have to go back and forth from my car...in the rain, snow, sleet, hail... and you'll all be thinking "glad I don't have to"! I'd better think about a backup plan.

Nikki, did you order the backpack?
