Hi lpaga85976

What type of advice are you looking for?

Also what trains are near the school other than Metro North? Just in case Metro don't act right I have a back up plan

Metro north since it's near my job.

Cool I'll be traveling by metro north too. Do you know how far the metro is from the school?

9-10 min walk.

The last stop on the 2 train is Wakefield 241st street Bronx, NY. The walk is about 25 minutes and the bus is 7-8 min which leaves you 1 block away from the school and across the street from Westchester Community College. The Metro north Blue line or Harlem line will leave you with a 20 minute walk as well getting off at Mount Vernon West. Hope this helps as far as other options for transportation ! Any Kap test info would be greatly appreciated! As far as lay out and science portion topics to study too.

Sorry for the late reply, Ok thanks I didn't know it was near WCC, I use to work in Valhalla at Westchester Medical Center.

As far as the test info I don't know much other than what I learnt up here.

I'm not sure what grade they are looking for as it maybe based off of each persons overall portfolio. I do think if you sat for the exam you may stilk be in the running. Each school determines their own grade for consideration into the program. Try not to be anxious. I do hope your score and all other prereq are enough to land you in the program. Keep your head up! Overall, what was on the exam? Was it anything you prepared for? Any tips to any of us? Thank you in advance.

Hey guys,

I took the KAP today and got an 84. I was mildly disappointed because I was shooting for at least a 90 but I'll take it. I have all my prereqs done and a 3.95 gpa so hopefully that's enough for me to get in.

I got a 65 on the Science part and got a 100 on math. I got a 76 in writing which is annoying as I'm actually pretty strong in writing, apparently just not for this exam haha. I did well in the comprehension, got in the 80s. Here's some tips/observations:

Science:

* It was virtually ALL physiology. No chem, anatomy, bio, etc.

* Make sure you study a lot of the respiratory system (gas exchange, how air enters body, etc), cardiovascular system (blood flow through vessels, heart, etc), Nervous system (autonomic, parasympathetic, etc), and Endocrine system, feedback loops. Most (if not all) questions came from these four systems. Also, there were some questions about the digestive system.

Math:

* Decimals, fractions, percentages, ratios, and a few dosage questions.

* Make sure you have those first four mastered. Almost all of the questions were on those four types of problems.

* There were problems where you had to add fractions, add decimals, convert decimals to fractions or percentages, etc.

* You can't bring your own calculator but there's a calculator on the PC screen you can use.

Writing:

* You have to read quite a bit for this section so keep mindful of the time. You get about 4-5 passages to read and each one has a few questions asking about different rules of English, etc.

* Make sure you know subject-verb rules, rules on using apostrophes, commas, colons/semi-colons, and clauses. Also, make sure you know when to use its vs it's, lets vs let's, etc.

Comprehension:

* You have about 4-5 passages to read and each one has a bunch of questions pertaining to it.

* You'll get asked a few questions about the author's point, main idea, things like that. I suggest reading the passages at least twice but the second time go more quickly than the first time and don't spend a lot of time on each question. I'm actually a pretty quick reader and I almost ran out of time. I answered the last question with 15 seconds left.

Here are the resources I used:

Books -

1) ATI TEAS - Test Study Guide 2018-2019

2) CliffsNotes: Anatomy & Physiology Quick Review (THIS WAS MY BREAD & BUTTER. Great book! It simplifies everything into manageable chapters)

3) I bought the Kaplan book but after I bought it two of my friends said it was useless for this exam and it kind of was. The English and math parts are great but the science section is useless. The science section in the TEAS book is more useful.

App:

PocketPrep (HESI version - $15). When you download the app you can buy the HESI exam or TEAS and I bought the HESI version at that time. You get 1500 practice questions including all 4 sections. They also have practice questions on physics which the Kaplan exam doesn't use so I skipped all the physics questions. You can customize your practice exams and it also gives you an explanation for each question. I did 100-question practice exams about once or twice a day for about a month or so.

My take on the exam is that it wasn't bad at all. You just have to put the work in and study quite a bit so you guys should be fine.

I was told Monte will send acceptance notices in mid-Nov so let's see what happens. Happy studying everyone and good luck!
