Im in my second semester at NOVA and at the end of last semester, i decided to change my major to nursing. Im taking NAS161 this semester. I was hoping that someone could answer some questions that i have.
1.Can i apply for the momentum 2+1 program at this point?
2. Is the checklist for the program supposed to be turned in prior to taking any classes?
3. If ive already taken classes that are supposed to be taken in the 3rd semester, do i have to take it again later during that semester?
4. If i cant take the momentum 2+1, what do i do now?
I wanted to talk to somebody at the MEC campus but she's on vacation, so i was hoping that somebody can answer my questions so that i don;t die of fustration over the break :)

1. The momentum program is for kids straight out of high school or for those who have no college credit. So since you already have taken classes at NVCC then you're not eligible.
2. The check list is to be turned in once you complete everything on it, kind of like a grocery list. You make the list and check off things once you're done.
3. See answer to question #1.
4. You can take NAS 162, and any other pre-reqs/ TEAS and then apply for the accelerated program next spring (March 2010, starts in May 2010) or traditional next fall (May 2010).

Actually, my friend who is in this program right now is not straight out of high school and she did have some classes completed. They took her. I would call Nova after March 16th for more information.
Last year they let everyone in, that applied and had the appropriate HESI score. They changed it for this year.
Oh, wow, I didn't know that. Things change all the time in nursing program.

Yes, you can apply to the Momentum 2+1 program, and it is your quickest method for getting your ADN, since you just switched majors. It means that if you get accepted you have Summer, Fall and next Spring to complete as many classes as possible that are not NUR classes. All the people that get in will start the NUR classes next Summer (2010).
I was going to apply to it, but it means I would have nothing to do between now and next summer...
Good luck!

This program is for students who have no prior college credit and are attending college for the first time.

Yes some people got into the first class-Program- already having classes but things have since changed. The next classes to come will have to follow by the rules. Meaning you can't have any classes prior and you would basically be straight out of highschool. The thing that you must realize is that you will have to take classes in the summer and they will most likely be online. Also teachers from annandale will be teaching you. Annandale is your connection as far as support courses. You have to maintain a 2.75 GPA, meaning you can't get too many c's which are passing grades by the way. The other thing is some how right after the summer semester before the following yr when you need to transfer to mason, you will have to pass your NCLEX. Basically this program is long and intense, yes long and intense. There is no room for much deviation in anything. No breaks, need mostly A's and B's. Yes I know a C is passing but a C at NVCC is a 2.0 so if you get too many, guess what? You will be below the 2.75 and won't be able to transfer to mason. Well other then that the program is still great but realize what is required before you sign up. A 2yr program or 1.5 yrs may be more feasable. O also you will have to pay george mason tuition when you transfer to george mason. O and like I said the summer classes will most likely be online because the teachers have made it clear that they don't plan on being on campus teaching in the summer. So if your not an online person take this into consideration. O also you can only take your support courses at the medical campus. The school will sign you up for your courses and you can't take any ahead or you will be forced out of the program. They -nvcc- will check your class schedule periodically to see if you have broken the rules. Sorry about penmanship. I sorta just typed this up really fast to help those that have questions and concerns. Yes this is a 3 yr program which is shorter then 4 yrs but you could still do the two yrs, have your time to pass NCLEX and take a few classes ahead and do the accelerated BSN. So go ahead and continue with what you are doing if you already have the NAS 161 etc. done and apply for something else. This NVCC program is not exactly like GMU's program. You can't really work monday thru friday because your class could be at an awkward time and it is the time that the school chooses. Example you may have a class from 2pm to almost 5pm. You also may have a class early in the morning until the evening. You just never know.

Call the school and ask. Trust me, you are wrong. They allow people who have taken general education classes to apply. Which includes everyone who has done nothing but work towards a nursing degree.
I know this for a fact, I called the school and asked. The program brochure is wrong, call the school and ask!!!!!!
Wow the dept. changed thier minds again. Not a shocker, they seem to do it every other month or so. You sure seem to know when they make changes as soon as they happen. You must live up there! Must be nice.
They always change things. Who really knows.
My bad, I didn't realize that you didn't go to NVCC. Sorry, I didn't mean to be rude. Most of my fellow classmates are pre-nursing students so words travels fast amongst us. I have also heard that they have gone back and forth several times with the momentum 2+1 program so I can see why there is constant confusion. Plus the school doesn;t do a good job of keeping us updated about the changed, you have to know someone basically.
