Mohawk/McMaster Admission?

Published

hi all! i'm new here, i've been lurking for a few days, but this is my first post. i have a question. i've just confirmed my offer of admission to mohawk college's pre-health program (beginning january 2011.) i didn't complete high school, so this is my only route to gaining admission into the mohawk/mcmaster bscn program.

i'm just wondering if anyone has an idea of the level of difficulty i'm going to have gaining entry to the bscn program? i'm planning on taking a high school chemistry course to brush up as well. does anyone know how many mature applicants mohawk accepts from their pre-health program, and what the average grades they want to see are? they mention 75% on their website, but i'm sure with such a competitive program it is higher than that.

is there anyone on this site who has entered the program from pre-health? do you have any advice for me? sorry for so many questions, it's just i really want this!! i've wanted to be a nurse for a long, long time!

I'm applying for Pre-Health Sciences Program for This january. Want to go to McMaster BScN Program. Any advice guys? Did well in Bio and Chem. Fairly average in math. Is there anyways I can boost my knowledge to get high grades for the Pre-Health Sciences Program? Is it possible to get into BScN in McMaster by Septemeber?:)

I entered pre-health January 2011, and I applied to McMaster before I even started Pre-health. You can apply as soon as applications are being accepted, you just have to note on your application that you are attending pre-health. The deadline to apply is February, so a lot of people in my class applied in January and February after they started pre-health. Yes you do get to start in September if you are accepted, the pre-health January start is a fast track, so you finish in the summer and are able to attend mcmaster in September.

As for the previous question- 95.5 was hard to acheive. Studying (and early, not cramming right before big tests), keeping up with assignments and never missing even one small assignment helped me get that average. Having a good memory helps, or at least knowing how to study to commit things to memory. With biology and chemistry there is alot of memorization. Ask for help right away if you are struggling, form study groups and quiz each other, edit your writing assignments before handing them in, read the chapters in the text books before class, etc.

Thats all I can think of!

Good luck!!!

I'd like to know, were you working during this program or taking osap? I'm also planning to work and stay in residence if I can. I live in pickering that's why. Study groups, where might I find them? Any in particular I should join when I get in at January 2012 program? I really want to keep on top of things with this program. How much were the textbooks in total and such? The most that I can make by dec 1 is $5,000-$6,000 and $3,000 is already going to residence. I really would like to know how you made it through with finance. I'm guessing you went through the financial aid or something? I'm really thankful for your reply/replies in advance and sorry for so many questions. It's been my dream to go to McMaster :)

I had OSAP while in the program, because I have two kids so it would be really hard to work. My advice to you is to apply for any bursuries you can. There is the tuition assistance bursury and scholarships, etc. This should help you out somewhat financially.

Text books- wait until your teachers tell you which books you will need. There is a used textbook sale in the MSA at Mohawk in the beginning of the semester where you can save a ton of money. For the entire year the books new are about 1000, I spent about 450 purchasing them used from people. Really with the amount of money you have saved, get on applying for those scholarships and bursuries and buy books used if you can.

Study groups- the pre-health class is a tightnit group. You will make friends even though it is competetive- and you and your friends can study together.

Try hard and I'm sure you'll make it to McMaster!! Good luck :)
