Mohawk College - Practical Nursing January 2017

World Canada CA Programs

Hi everyone, just want to ask for an update about the application for winter 2017 mohawk college practical nursing program?

Hi Dance attack! Im just wondering how average are your marks? and how about your HOAE? Thanks!

Hi dprescott, I had an 83 in bio, 82 chem, 75 math and 74 eng. My Hoae went as fallows: Academic Aptitude: 60/75, Info in the natural sciences 54/60, Reading comprehension 26/35, Spelling 41/45 and Vocational Adjustment Index 81/90. Tbh I didn't study one second for the HOAE. I read a bit about it on here, as I was a tad nervous, but nothing can prepare you, imo. If you're crap at spelling, good luck sorting that out in a month's time for a test. And a lot of it is just common sense, another thing you can't really do anything about. Anyway, there you go.

Your HOAE scores are amazing!!! Good luck and thank you for answering my question.

Hi everyone! I will be attending Mohawk in January 2017 as well. Can't wait! Has anyone started on their pre-placement requirements? I have gotten my TB test, flu shot, and tetorifice booster done so far! I called the pre-placement services desk to ask about the mask fit testing and the women that worked there said not to worry about the mask fit! She said its fine to wait until classes start as they will provide us with all the information. Apparently that step isn't needed until April. Also, only CPR-C/HCP level is required. We don't need standard first aid! Just a heads up to save some money, as those 2-day courses are expensive! Does anyone know when we will need our stethoscope? I'm thinking it might be a good christmas gift (if we use it within first semester!). Super excited to register and get our timetables!

I haven't started any of the replacement things yet but i'm planning on starting in the next couple of weeks.

As for the job for new grads thing... you may have already heard about it, but I have an RN friend who suggested going through HFO (HealthForceOntario) to get a job once you graduate... They have a "Nursing Graduate Guarantee" that places you in a position for (I think) 26 weeks. I mean it's not a permanent thing, but it can at least get our feet in the door and could turn into permanent positions! And at very least it gives you the ability to add more experience to your resume, so thats good :)

So excited to pick my timetable!! This Thursday can't come soon enough!

Correct me if I'm wrong but the required book list hasn't come out yet right? Is Dec 12th when we have the option to start picking or am I just not looking in the right place?

Hello all!

Course selection was today, I'm overall happy with mine as I don't have any classes after 230pm... but I got a Saturday. One 30 min class on Saturday... I am coming from Welland and driving to Hamilton for one 30 min class on a Saturday sound ridiculous. I chose timetable block A, anyone else have that?

I've got a small start on my preplacement, but I called the co-ordinator and she said not to worry too much about preplacement now, the first semester we're just getting our feet wet and getting into the swing of things. We're going to have an orientation, so keep an eye out for the email and then we will find out about scrubs, stethoscopes, books etc etc etc.

I'm getting kinda nervous but super excited to finally start.. I'm excited to meet new people who are jumping into this journey with me.

Again, if anyone is coming from Niagara, I'd love to get a carpool going!

See you all in.... almost a month!

Hey all! I also picked timetable A. I have a feeling that the Saturday half hour thing will be moved?? (Possibly to the place keeper day? - my place keeper is thursday) because I agree, going to Hamilton for half an hour does seem silly.

Overall though, I'm happy with my timetable and am soo excited to start!!!

I'm a block B person. I have the weird Saturday one too though from 130-1:59 hahaha. I really hope you're right about it being moved to our placekeeper day, which btw is Tuesday for me. My schedule kind of stinks actually, I have a class every day except Sunday. Maybe Placekeeper is a placekeeper for us to have a day to rest and study!

Also picked timetable A!! :) See you all real soon!

Has anyone found out what that 1/2 hr class was on saturday? Did anyone call the office for nursing?

Hey dance attack,

Did you complete all the answers to the 5 sections in the HOAE test? I'm really nervous about how I will ever be able to answer 90 questions in 15 minutes for the vocational adjustment index. If you left some questions blank, did they count them as incorrect answers?

Yeah I completed everything, so I don't know the answer to your blank questions question. There has to be someone at Mohawk who would have answers for you though, so I'd give them a call if you're really that concerned. Sorry I can't be of more help.
