Modesto or Oakland?

Hello all,

Anyone have experience or knowledge of Highland Hospital (formerly ACMC) or Modesto Memorial in Modesto? I'm trying to decide between two offers. Thanks!

P.S. I know Oakland is known for its crime, but I'm looking more for info on the hospitals, units themselves.

A lot of turbulence at Memorial. This is due to the Sutter take over recently in the past and on going Union and labor disputes. I would avoid Memorial if at all possible. There are nice neighborhoods in Oakland. Modesto has its share of shady neighborhoods and individuals. Memorial has a busy er and trauma bay, but other units are lack luster and a lot of the nurses are unhappy. At least that is what I saw when I precepted there as a student and what many of my peers who worked there have told me. Lots of lay offs, shifts getting called off, lower pay compared other local large hospitals. Plus Modesto is pretty lifeless.
