Hello everyone,

I wanted to make a forum for all applicants for MJC 2021. We can all share our questions, concerns, share our points/TEAS scores, and updates we get from the school!

Good luck everybody!

?

Well how many points do you have?

I have 67. I will be fine for lottery, but I retook physiology 2 years ago, so I have a deduction on my end. I was unaware you could retake at another school with no penalty. So suffering this time around but still going to take the chance ?

Yeah take a chance it will not hurt! Are you sure I thought if you retook a class anywhere there would be a penalty?

No, I talked to M. Garcia the allied health counselor. He say it would be fine if I took it at delta/Merced/Stan

Hi there, what if I took micro in Fresno and got a W then again a year later at Merced college. Would I get the penalty? Thank you so much!!

Hello,

I believe that you won’t get a penalty, however you need to have MJC or any other school evaluate your transcripts before application so that they will have it on record that they are equivalent. I would also make a counseling appointment with one of MJCs allied health counselors, so they can show you how to put it on your application. I’m not an expert at filling out these applications but this is what was told by M. Garcia counselor.

Oh OK. Thank you so much for the guidance!

@NurseJenk The nice thing about MJC Nursing is that they're one of the few nursing programs around anymore that doesn't require you to submit a transcript from every college or university you ever attended when you apply. So if you do what I did, and royally screwed up my first year of college right after high school, it's not the end of the world. I retook all of those classes and finished the rest of my pre-reqs at a couple different community colleges, got straight A's in my sciences and most other courses, studied hard for the TEAS, and got into MJC Nursing on the first try... There's always a second chance, at some point ?  So if you're reading this and that's you, maybe don't submit the "bad" transcript if you don't absolutely have to. That being said: Marcos, Vie, or an MJC Nursing Instructor should be the only ones to advise you to do that (which I was advised to do in my specific case). Otherwise you could really end up digging a deeper hole for yourself.

I'm excited for you guys to get started on this crazy, slightly scary, but mostly super exciting part of your life's journey! If you get in, your world is about to change. And yes, for the better... most days, anyway ? I probably won't be on this thread too much after this, but if anyone needs some help with something they don't want to share with the group (I.e. applying with criminal convictions, getting selected to submit supporting documentation, getting disqualified, applying with bad grades, etc)...
Feel free to shoot me a private message. I'm a safe space, and I'm happy to help if I can.

Good luck!

Thank you for this information, I too screwed up straight after high school, so currently making it back up. If I don’t get in this year, I am retaking physiology at delta or Merced to save my behind.

Hello everyone, I will be applying with 80 pts to MJC. Little discouraged it may not be enough due to the circumstances of COVID and clinical placements. I plan on retaking the TEAS in a couple weeks to improve my score for more points. If not selected I plan on obtaining a CNA license in the Summer and then re apply to MJC and other schools.

I have my counseling appointment for transcript evaluation tomorrow and waiting for Feb 1st to apply.

Good luck to everyone applying.
