hello everyone, I was just wondering if anyone knows of a good nursing mnemonics book it seems that it is easier for me to remember stuff if I have a saying to go along with it. Thanks so much for your help

There is a whole series of books called "Memory Notebook of Nursing". I only have 2 of the books, but when I shared them with my clinical group my instructor highly recommended them. I haven't used them too many times, but the times that I did need them I got exactly what I was hoping for....they helped me remember some things that I needed for my tests.

Good luck!

I would definitely recommend the "Memory Notebook of Nursing" series. I only have one of the books but it has helped me out tremendously. Usually what I do is that a day or two before a test I'll go through the relevant information in the book and the catchy pictures seem to stick really well in my head =)

Another classmate of mine has every book and the series and she loves it. I believe that it also comes with a CD that also has mnemonics on it.

Hi, feliciamac, and welcome to allnurses! :welcome:

When I saw your post I was also going to suggest the Memory Notebook of Nursing series. There are three books in the series, but one is specifically about pharmacology and diagnostic tests. The other two (Volume I and II) cover such things as (I'm reading from the Table of Contents of Volume II) basic care, assessment, acid base and electrolyte, psychosocial problems, a whole bunch of subjects under med/surg nursing organized by body system and obstetrics. They not only include mnemonics, but other memory tools and visuals (cartoonlike drawings) as well. These books were published by the authors who used some of these drawings and mneumonics in their NCLEX preparation seminars. Each book costs about $25 retail.

Mosby also publishes some of the same work by the above authors in two spiral bound sets of cards that specifically covers Fluid and Electrolytes and Pharmacology for $23 each. The Mosby cards are in color. The books above are in black and white.

Just realized that we have a "sticky" for memory aids and mnemonics. Here's the link. Have fun!!

Thanks a lot I will definitely be looking into those

I have all the Mosby's books, flip books, and coloring books. They have helped me to retain more things than I can tell ya. I actually found 2 of them at the local Goodwill store for 99 cents each, YAY! I am a student and have to choose where I spend money and I would tell ANY student to invest in these books, especially if you are a visual learner. There are pictures related to the topics that help you remember things. The pharmacology one is great as it divides medications into easy to swallow numbers as opposed to a list of 300 meds randomly thrown on a piece of paper and told to memorize them, this happened to our class.

I'm going to have to look around our local bookstore does not have much in the nursing section, thanks a lot though, I need all the help I can get and I understand the money situation.

These books are excellent for several reasons, of which, they are written by nurses, RN's to be exact. They are geared for nurses and nursing students. How much more can you ask for? I swear by these books. I have ALL of them and would suggest that students get their hands on at least 1 and see how much of a difference they make.

books or flashcards? I can't seem to find them~

Thanks
