MN RN Wages

Hello. I am an RN with an Associates Degree; I graduate with a BSN in a few months. I have 2 years experiences as a LPN (home care and LTC) and 2 years experience as an RN (home care and LTC). I just received an offer to work in a small, non-profit clinic in Minneapolis for $28.50/ hour. This seems very low to me. The job is triaging calls and patients that come in on a walk-in basis and care coordination on behalf of the multiple providers. In any given day there are two providers and one nurse.

I am interested in knowing what other RNs are making in MN. If you do not feel comfortable saying what specific health care system you work for, that is okay. Can you help me out by giving me some perspective on this? You can include what kind of work you do and your hourly wage. Any other helpful information. Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.

That's actually about right for clinic work. I work in a NICU and make about $32.75/hour after 2 years with a $1.50 or so shift differential for night shifts on top of that. Clinic nurses make considerably less due to a less stressful environment and more predictable work schedule and hours. If you want better pay I would look outside of the clinic setting and look for more med surg or icu

Hi, thanks for giving some perspective on wages. I appreciate your input. The reason I was skeptical was because of glassdoor.com which stated that the median for MN RN hourly wage was in the mid- thirties. I haven't spoken to any MN RNs about it and wasn't sure what to think.

That's a high wage. I live in PA and only make $30 an hour with BSN and 6 years exp

I hear you it seems like those sites alway quote so high! It really goes by how long you have been at that job. We have some senior nurses on my unit making upper 40 to low 50 per hour. You just have to get in somewhere and the contract will keep increasing your pay.

Holy crap I would love that for clinic pay, northern MN clinics are paying $23-24 an hour

Hope things are going well for you at the clinic. Just wanted to give some additional feedback, as I'm in the Minneapolis area as well. I work in an ICU and would agree with the Glassdoor estimates. My hospital is under a union contract, so that helps. We are paid based on years of experience and level of education (ADN/BSN/MSN). I've been out of school 3 years this year and hold a MPH, which qualifies me for MSN pay. There's a nice clause in our contract that states BSN-prepared nurses who hold a MSN, MPH, or a MS in Psychology or Gerontology are paid on the MSN pay scale. That, plus night shift differential for a nurse a few years out of school can bring you in $34-38/hr. Charge RN and weekend differential pay can also inflate that slightly. :-)
