St. Charles Community College Nursing Student - page 7
Hi. I am new to this website - I just registered today. I am starting the nursing program at St. Charles Community College this Fall semester. I have read over the program information for both... Read More
May 9, '11I dont know the name of th bookstore by there or even exactly where its at....just heard its right by the school...
don't think I will hv classes with either one of you! I planned my schedule so some of my classes were late afternon/clinicals daytime to mix it up a little bit...kind of a different schedule but it works best with my work and kids...
thats prob a good idea to move closer yd bush-it could create some extra time studying instead of driving!
May 9, '11I signed up for all evening classes. I'm looking for a place right now in St Charles. Hopefully I find something soon!
May 12, '11Hi I am new to the forum thing, I signed up and am doing my pre-reqs right now, I will start clinicals august 2012! (as long as everything goes as planned) now are the clinicals for 1 year or 2 years? I am just debating between student loans and bening fully devoted to school, or working while going to school.
May 21, '11@T-shirt girl I'm not sure about the work thing either. I know that I do have to work because I am the one paying for this.
As for everyone else I wanted to know where you all were with the immunizations and everything. My insurance is not paying for any of this. So I researched the titer info. I prepaid for the titers through private md labs. St Charles County Health Department said if the titers came back negative then they would immunize you for MMR and chicken pox for free. The total cost for me for those two titers was $92. St Charles offers the Hep A and B vaccinations for free and the tb test is $15. So all I've paid is $107.00 for everything because I already had the tetanus shot.
Hope this info was helpful.
Jun 15, '11Hey..
So, with the immunizations, ydbush.. here's my update. It took me quite a few phone calls, faxes, and visits, to get to where I am now. As is life.
I was referred to a place by the health department called anylabtestnow. I got my MMR/VZ Titers and my TB done there, for a total of 148.00. Ouch.. however, I ended up winning some in the end.
I used to work in restaurant, and I knew I had at least my first dose of Hep A back in '04. Called the health department that did it, and they told me I got both Hep A & Hep B on that date. So, I had already had 1 dose of Hep A and 2 does of Hep B. I got my 2nd Hep A and my 3rd Hep B earlier this week, so I am clear in that arena.
Titers showed I don't need my MMR/VZV - immune to all - 3 through vaccination, 1 through past infection.
Paid 35.00 for Hep A at St. Charles Co Health Department, had all files of other past vaccinations from my high school and health department faxed over to them so everything is all on one sheet. They didn't tell me Hep A would be free. Hep B was free, though. Twinrix they said is free right now. I got them separately, though, because I've previously had Hep B vaccine x2.
I am scheduled to get my Tdap in 2 weeks, hopefully for only 20.00 through doctor's office who offers services on sliding fee scale. All in all, 203.00 in the hole. Better than I first thought it would be, however.
Yay! Finished with that, almost.
Let me know how things are going for you,
Jun 15, '11Wow! What a lot we have to go through! All I'm done with everything except for the twinrix. I had the first injection almost a month ago. Second injection is June 27. After that I'll turn all my paperwork into to the nursing office. I already took the CPR too! Have you taken it? I guess I'm almost ready to start classes now.
Jun 15, '11Awesome great job!
I already actually am BLS/CPR AHA certified through my work, so that is under my belt, too. So relieved.
My last injection is June 28, last one, so I can get my paperwork in well ahead of time, too. So nice.
Jul 6, '11So what days/time are you guys going to be in class? I am just trying to gage time wise what I could have available for work.
Jul 6, '11I have lecture M and T 4-5:50pm. I have lab M 6-7:50pm. And when clinicals start they will be W and Th 3-8. I know they are telling people not to work but I have to because I'm paying for this myself. I don't qualify for any financial aid. I am looking into getting an apartment in St Charles because it would save me so much money in tuition, gas, and even time. Right now I live in St Louis City and that drive is like 45 minutes. I don't imagine I'll feel like making that trip after a long day of work and classes everyday.
Jul 7, '11I will be in the 10a-11:50a lecture M/W, 10a-11:50a lab Tues. I have my evening clinicals W/Th 3-8, will be working Fridays and Saturdays 2nd/1st mid-shift on my job. On call on Mondays 2nd shift. I'm on my school schedule right now with those hours and days I'm working; so far it works out beautifully. I couldn't be happier with my work schedule as it complements my school schedule ideally for fall semester. I need the extra work hours, too, as I pick up open shifts at least once a week lately. One extra shift a week seems to help enough, making the difference between 2 or 3 bills each month.
It's a difficult thing juggling home, kids, work, and school, let alone having adequate time for one's self.
Jul 7, '11Well I am supposed to start in august 2012 if all goes as planned with the test, I dont know how many people are in front of me. I have been debating about seeing if I can start in 2013 just to see if I can save more money so I can work less. You should look into moving out to st charles, I live out here and love it. Especially with gas prices the way that they are.
Jul 7, '11@tidebeckons...no luck yet and I really want to find a place before classes start so I can get in district tuition. Everything seems a bit out of my price range. I was wanting to pay $500 per month or less. Hopefully something comes up soon.
