St. Charles Community College Nursing Student

U.S.A. Missouri

Published

Hi. I am new to this website - I just registered today.

I am starting the nursing program at St. Charles Community College this Fall semester. I have read over the program information for both the lab and lecture and it looks pretty intense, especially the lab.

I see that a lot of outside practice is required for the labs. If anyone is interested in being a partner with me for the sake of practicing their labs, please let me know.

My class schedule is as follows:

Monday and Wednesday Lecture: 8 to 9:50am

Tuesday Lab: 2 to 4pm

Thursday and Friday clinicals starting at 7am until noon

I am not employed so I am pretty open.

I would love to make new friends for school. Let me know if anyone is interested in getting in touch - especially if we have the same class/lab schedules.

Hello ladies!

Brand new to this and wanted your input: I am considering nursing programs in the STL area. I have meetings with SCCC and Maryville this Wednesday. I have been out of school and working for years now and would therefore have to take several pre-reqs starting Spring 2012. I'd like your input on the difficulty/waiting list of SCCC as the tuition costs are 1/4 of what Chamberlains is (despite it being a BSN--still--$70K is crazy). Thanks in advance for your help!

I think SCC is the best deal for the money. I already have a college degree and college loans to go along with it. There is no way i'd want to spend 70,000 on a degree. Plus once you're a nurse, the hospital that you work for should be paying for you to continue your education. SCC will have you apply right away and once you can take pre-requisites while you're waiting. The time flew by for me as I started this process in 2009 and just met all the requirements.

Just a fyi for people who haven't signed up for the 2012 program, 2013 program and after all science courses now must have a "B" instead of the "C".

I know most of you are already in the program I figured I would post that on for any new people that come to the forum.

I was going to ask when did you guys take the dosage exam and find out what score you got and did any of you take the review course and feel that it was worth it?

They don't really give you your score for the dosage test. They just post online whether you passed or failed. I think if you fail they send you a list of topics that you need to review. I didn't take the review course. On the SCC website they give you an outline so I used that to teach myself everything that I needed to know and it worked out for me. I also know plenty of people who took the course and they said that it worked out for them.

I took the dosage class and feel it helped me a lot. I found out I passed a couple days after I took it, but they said it could take a couple weeks.

Hey everyone! I was just wondering how the nursing program is going for everyone so far. I am in the process of being accepted( I take the dosage test in January and then hopefully start in the fall 2012).

Just wanted to hear everyones thoughts about the program, instructors, difficulty, etc.

Thanks!!

Tiffany

Well, where to begin? We are in week 3 of the program and already there is so much. First day they gave us a lot of do's and don'ts and stuff like that. I really like lecture. We start clinicals next week. I'm already stressed i keep forgetting different things...like purse, keys, cell phone etc. That is a definite sign of stress. I even made a mistake and read the wrong chapters for a lecture. Luckily we didn't have a quiz that day! But each week I get a little better with my organization. So far so good!

Be sure to keep us updated with your progress of getting into the program and good luck with that dosage test! Hopefully we'll see you next fall.

Yeah I know they said the program would be difficult and very time consuming so I am ready for that! I am sure as time progresses your stress will ease. Sounds like things are going well so far!

I am nervous about the dosage test but hopefully studying a ton will pay off! Good luck on your first semester and keep us updated as to how its going!

Hey everyone! Its been a long time since we posted here. My screenname was formerly ydbush30. So how is everyone doing in the nursing program? Hard to believe this semester is almost over already!

Hello! It has been a while since we have posted here ydbush! And I'm surprised I haven't met you yet- what is your first name? I am in Mon and Tues 4 pm lecture and Thurs and Fri day clinicals. I can't believe this semester is more than half over! It HAS been going by fast. It is a lot to keep up with but I am really enjoying (most of) it so far...I'm doing pretty well so far. I had my midterm clinical eval today and she had only good things to say :) And I have consistently got a B on the last two tests. Not as good as I would like, but I won't complain either.

I am really concerned of next semesters schedule! It looks way more busy than first semester.....I hope I can continue to keep up with the pace! How are things going for you? What do you think of next semesters schedule?

Hi. I'm Yaisha. I was going to take evening classes and at the last minute I switched to days. So i'm doing everything in the daytime. But i'm doing ok too. I have a C right now which i'm not complaining about. One more point though and it would be a B. I have an awesome clinical instructor and clinicals are good.

You're right about next semester. It looks like a nightmare. We can do this though. Its just two years right? Good luck to you. Maybe I'll see you in next semester's clinical rotation.

Technically it is only 17 months more (less than a year and a half!) Can you tell Im already counting down? LOL just kidding..... Hope we meet next semester!:)
