Barnes Accelerated vs. SLU?

U.S.A. Missouri

Published

Hey all!

I am new to nursing and have been accepted into the January 2009 class at Barnes in their Accelerated program. I recently quit my office job in a cube and I start as a tech at SLU hospital in a week! When looking through my HR papers I noticed the Tenet Future Nurses program and tuition reimbursement (which is a pretty awesome deal). Do I have to be a St. Louis University student to qualify for Tenet future nurse and tuition reimbursement, or can I qualify being a Barnes student?

If I don't qualify, does anybody know what SLU's nursing program is like?

Any input would be very, very appreciated!!!

Did you already have a degree before getting accepted to barnes?

Yes I have a previous degree from Mizzou in Marketing

see my problem im starting from scratch

Specializes in ED.

I start SLU's accelerated BSN next month. I will let you know what it is like when I start!

What are the pre reqs for slu's accelerated program? how long is it?

SLU's program runs May-May. Check out their website and search accelerated BSN. I didn't need to have as much done because I already has a BA. They are more expensive then Barnes though. I chose them because even though I already had a bachelors, I would still have to have more prereqs done to go to Barnes then SLU. The extra year that it would take me to complete the extra coursework for Barnes equals one year loss of nurse pay, so I chose SLU.

Hey, that's great!! I'm actually looking into the Barnes/Jewish and SLU accelerated programs right now, but my question is this: What kind of tech job were you able to get at SLU hospital without having any previous healthcare employment, assuming that's the case? I'm a year away from school with the prereqs I still have to take, but I'd love to start working now in a hospital environment. For the time being, I've been volunteering at a clinic. How'd you get your job?!

To answer your original question, I believe you just have to be a Tenet employee, but can go to any college you wish. You may have to sign a contact though.

Just a warning Barnes if very disorganized and really not that helpfull to the student although they pretend to be.

I have been accepted to Barne's May '09 accelerated program. Why do you say they're disorganized?

Congrats.....I start the BSN Upper Division program in Jan. Not sure about the disorganization but I wish you the best.
