Anyone work for a HCA hospital?

I have heard mixed things about HCA...does anyone work for them? I know that if you go to Research College of Nursing and agree to work for 2 years at a HCA hospital they will pay your tution for the accelerated BSN program. Have any of you done that and what was your experience?

I am in the AO RCON '10 class and even if it is not as great a hospital as others in the area, tuition is worth it. They pay 100% plus all of my pre reqs that I had left to finish. It's only 2 years and hey I'm just grateful to have a guaranteed job when I graduate. Not everyone can say that.

I gradated from Research College of Nursing in May 2009, TO option. No, it's NOT guaranteed you will get hired by HCA after graduation. I know this for a FACT. Also, ask 23 of the AO students who are STILL looking for a job ANYWHERE because they can't get hired by HCA. These students just graduated in August 2009. PM me for more info. Don't believe the hype is all I'ma say.

I am meeting with a admin. rep at Research next week, but need to figure out if I should drop classes I am currently taking at MCC? I'm nervous now, because I just read they require a minimum of 15 hrs. (of pre-reqs I'm assuming???) be completed at the Rockhurst campus...has anyone gotten into the ABSN program at Research after having taken pre-reqs elsewhere though? I've already started Chem w/ Lab, and Dev. Psych at MCC this week.

Someone posted that with their Loan Forgiveness Program, they were also reimbursed for the pre-reqs at Rockhurst....was that not until you started working for HCA though? Right now I'm paying out of pocket for what I'm taking at MCC...and it is rough!!!

The 15 required hours at Rockhurst are included in your nursing program if you get accepted to the program.

In other words, you can still take classes at MCC (I did this route), but you will STILL have to take 15 hours at Rockhurst no matter what. Six hours of Theology, six hours of Philosophy, and 3 hours of Ethics (Ethical Theory). No, other theology, philosophy or ethics transfer from MCC or other schools for that matter.

I completed all 15 hours before I hit my senior year, although I did pay out of pocket to take a class during the summer. With the hardcore nursing classes, those Rockhurst classes could be a distractor.

Thank you for that clarificiation! The fact that those need to be completed at Rockhurst was not made clear to me before, I didn't understand WHY those were neccessary if they are included in the Loan Forgiveness program. That seems kind of silly if they are not really making $ on them. I guess I should know though, I attended Park University for my BA which has the same type of requirement of three 300 level "Liberal Learning" courses that you can only take there....it's a private school thing. You're right though, they could be a breather from the nursing curriculum/clinicals. Thanks for your response!

I'm afraid the loan forgiveness program is much more competitive to actually get now for the AO BSN. It did have a pre-req GPA a requirement of 2.8, that has been bumped up to 3.2 overall, or 3.5 in science pre-reqs. HCA will also now be interviewing those who meet the requirement one full year ahead of the start date of the program (almost like an initial job interview). August 2010 is full...the next available start date is August 2011, and you must apply NOW.

This makes sense considering not everyone who completes the program is given a job with HCA after graduation.

I guess they will be accepting less applicants for both the AO and TO program in the future.

I am one of the 23 AO's she was referring to. Luckily, for me, my loan was forgiven by HCA in November. So no 2 years w/HCA for me. Yay!

I asked the advisor about this happening...she said HCA didn't have a "spot" for only 6 or 7 individuals last year. She somewhat indicated that there had been some sort of conflict between students and HCA when this happened about whether or not their loans would still be forgiven. She said the main problem has been that not as many jobs have been created or opened b/c of ppl. not retiring (who have lost money in 401K's etc.)...which is the story across the nation thanks to the recession. It sounds like HCA is tightening up their contract with students from now on...making it more difficult to qualify for the loan now. So sounds like a few of you got lucky...but I'm sure they are trying to prevent that now making it difficult for us new applicants to get qualified!

The bolded part is a flat out lie. They will say anything to try to cover themselves.

HCA had a hiring freeze and didnt let it be known to RCON until the students were complaining about getting jobs. They had no choice but to let more than "6 or 7 students" out of their contracts. It was 7 students in the TO program alone that got let out. Not to mention all the AO students that were let out.
