Anyone go to Cox College in Springfield?

I'm late getting to you, but I'm graduating from CC with a BSN in May, and have worked for the hospital for 2 years. They do have a tuition reimbursement (you have to apply...supposedly it's competitive) and I want to say it's around $2K per year, if you contract to work for them. $2K pays for 1/3 of my tuition, and I don't want to be tied down @ Cox for 5 years, so I decided not to.

Hi, was wanting some advice or comparisons. I have been accepted into both St John's and Cox Nursing in Springfield. I have to make a decision soon. Anyone have any good input on comparisons between the two? They are both good I know. I am wanting to finish as a NP, does one program have any advantages over the other? Cost differences, program differences/advantages/disadvantages, etc? Any good info would be very much appreciated! Lots to consider! THANKS!!

I only know about Cox and have gone all 4.5 years there. I've also worked for Cox Health since 2001. It's a very good school...the instruction there is awesome, but it's very disorganized. That aspect has gotten better recently since there are new people in administration, but it does get frustrating. I do know that Cox College is getting a NP program started soon (I think in fall of 2010) and currently have an MSN program as well. One other thing I would consider is that Cox offers an internship program to its graduates, and St. John's does not. I've known many St. John's grads to come to Cox after they graduate just because they want an internship slot.

Hi angeldoc. I was accepted at St Johns so maybe I will see you there. I didn't get in at Cox because I didn't have my algebra done....I didn't know that was a pre-reg. I was kindof bummed.

And Gradinmo, do you not like working for Cox? I just wondered how it was there. I hear that St Johns has better/cheaper insurance than Cox but Cox has the crew thing going on. It sounds like both hospitals have good things.

I've liked working for Cox, it's a really good institution. They offer Cox grads extra incentives for working for them after graduation as well as the the internship. The health insurance isn't great, but it's cheap and if you opt out of benefits completely (which I'll do because my husband's employer has better insurance) you get about $4.00/hr extra on your base pay. I've not ever worked at STJ's or been there, really :lol2: so I can't really compare the two accurately, but I have been very pleased with Cox.

I wish I could give you a real opinion. I volunteer and go to school there. Everyone is nice, helpful, and will teach or let you try almost anything. Not a lot of students are on allnurses from the Springfield area it seems. I can tell you I love it though.
