Mission To Create Better Scrubs

Meeting the founder who is making better scrubs and spurring economic growth in a struggling city. Nurses Announcements Archive

My name is Jamie, and I am new to the nursing profession. I'm also from Albuquerque which has a small college in the town called CNM (Central New Mexico Community College) where our nursing school resides. Shortly after a talk at CNM on how we can stimulate the economy in our city, unrelated to the nursing field, I met the founder of FIT Scrubs® - FITScrubs® Inc. His name is Arthur and I was immediately blown away by his passion and product.

Arthur's story was simple, he served in the United States military and was an ED Trauma Tech/Paramedic. He explained how the idea of FITScrubs came to be. How he was working late nights as a Paramedic and constantly changing his bloody scrubs after long shifts. And explained how the standard scrubs felt and fit, which wasn't great. Arthur worked day in and day out with nurses and colleagues who struggled with this same issue. Why can't we have better scrubs?

Through a two-year R and D initiative, Arthur sought to do something new. He sought to do what had never been done before-create a high-performance, antimicrobial moisture-wicking, odor-and fluid-resistant fabric by blending advanced fibers. Through a lot of research and elbow-grease, he researched potential solutions to his problems.

Arthur ended up raising money from his friends and family to fund his idea. After many, many months of designs and concepts, meetings and interviews with nurses, he developed the concept for better fitting scrubs, safer for the person wearing them and more comfortable after long shifts.

Now to get them created. He partnered with the leading antimicrobial bio-materials company, PurThread Technologies. Their bacteria-fighting silver thread is backed by evidence-based lab studies verifying its effectiveness. It's so effective that it's been proven to kill MRSA, staph and even pneumonia upon fabric contact.

Now, I've always had a special place for nurses, paramedics, doctors and anyone who has dedicated their life to serving others in the medical field, but I haven't met a guy quite like Arthur. He made a choice to invent something new, not with an idea of starting a business but to help his job, colleagues and to improve the medical profession. He spent a lot of late nights and long days creating scrubs technology that has silver fiber woven into the fabric! That makes it permanently antimicrobial - and up to 99.99 percent effective against MRSA, Staph, and Pneumonia. That's just crazy.

Which brings me back to Albuquerque, my hometown. The importance of nursing in our city and state is immense. It's creations like Arthur's FITScrubs that are good for our nurses and good for our city of Albuquerque. Arthur explained how he's keeping all manufacturing here in the US and he's creating new jobs. I was immediately taken back by this and meeting him, moved to the point I wanted to write this article.

There are so many stories of nurses in Albuquerque and I have experienced some first hand. There are also many stories of businesses leaving Albuquerque. FITScrubs moved to my city of Albuquerque, New Mexico to help a struggling town with our economy. It's also refreshing to see someone solve problems for our helpers in society. The men and women that risk their own wellbeing to care for others.

It was Mr. Rogers that said, "When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping." That's nurses, doctors, paramedics and medical professionals and that's Arthur, the founder of FITScrubs.

What's the difference between FITScrubs & Benefit?

ETA: $50 for a top? I'll pass & stick to Benefit. I can get a whole scrub outfit for the price of a scrub top at FITScrubs.

I agree with chaos. That's a little spendy for scrubs in my opinion.

After some thinking, I wanted to add some feedback.

1) The prices are too high for a single top/bottom when I could go to a competitor for the same thing.

2) The website layout is unprofessional & hard to use.

3) The scrubs are not that appealing/professional looking in my opinion.

I do not own any Benefit scrubs but hope to when I finally reach my goal weight. They have a great price point, a professional looking website & amazing scrubs. Not only that but they are constantly in touch with their audience.

I don't know how many scrubs FITScrubs has sold but they might want to redesign & lower the price. Nurses aren't rich even though some people might like you to believe that.

Aviator scrubs offer a nice mix of quality and value. Their material is heavier than the typical Cherokee scrubs and their pockets are very useful.

I don't want to pay for special fibers that are unlikely to retain their special characteristics over years of washing and, truth is, it's rare that I get blood or other bodily fluids on me. It does happen, but very infrequently... and that's in an urban Level 1 ED.

If I have to pay any more than $30 for scrubs, I'm out. I don't see the point.

These look really nice an comfortable but at close to 100 bucks for 1 set they are too rich for my blood.

I decided to try them. Understand I am a thrifty sole and generally buy my scrubs at Wallmart . At $49.00 a piece these were pretty pricey for me but I found myself in need of a tax deduction so I set off for two sets in size XXL.

The material is very comfortable an warm. It breaths well and wicks moisture away from your skin. I rarely come in contact with body fluids so their being anti-microbial was not a big selling point to me but it may be too you.

My only warning to potential buyers is that they run small! order at least 1 size bigger than you think you will wear.

Customer service was great. I contacted the company after receiving my first set to let them know about the fit. They actually mad adjustments to the set on back-order sp they would fit better.

All in all a pleasant experience and very nice scrubs.

Price wayyyyy too high for nothing to een have a percentage of cotton. I need my skin to breathe. The scrubs sound like I'd be expensively hot all-day
