It is mandatory now by the COA recommended by the AACN I believe
I was accepted to the MSN program! Congrats to all accepted and hope some get pulled off the wait list?
I know they were planning to accept 16 to the DNP program (I know someone who was offered that) and then 33 students to the MSN program.
I think for the wait list or alternate list, from research in the past I don't think they list you out in numbers and the first person on the list is offered a spot. I think if they have to pull someone off the waitlist, they reevaluate applications and will decide from all candidates again. At least that's what I have read on previous posts regarding MSA wait lists (some are over 10 years old)

It is so helpful to see real-life examples of who gets accepted! Thanks in advance!
I have 3 years of M/S ICU, but we do everything (cardiac/neuro/medical/surgical). Have had CCRN for 2 years. I don't do charge but am a preceptor on my unit. I took PALS on my own prior to applying. I didn't have the greatest overall GPA from undergrad (3.2) and an even worse science GPA. But I retook 3 science courses and got a As in all of them (orgo, A&P 1 and 2). They noted concerns about my poor undergrad grades but liked my retakes. I was a bad student, I skipped a lot, never thought I'd go back to school, did the minimum to get by. Definitely in a much better place now.
I've been rejected by other schools and not even granted an interview. I do feel MSA does a good job at looking at the candidate as a whole. If they solely went off grades, I wouldn't have even been granted an interview.

6 years as a RN. 3 in a LTACH. 3 in a mixed CCU. 3.8 GPA. Previous charge experience and preceptor. Completed quality improvement projects. Presented posters projects at local conferences and at AACN NTI. Recently took a chemistry and stats class.
I have been a RN for twelve years at various level 1 trauma centers with 9 years in ICU (primarily NeuroTrauma). I have charge, preceptor, committee and research experience.
My GPA is a 3.4 (3.9 from nursing but scored lower marks in some science courses). Like NillyWilly, I retook several courses this past year to address my GPA (full chemistry series, organic 1, and statistics) for a 4.0.
For those of you that didn’t get in, my best advice is to ask for constructive feedback and address what is offered to you. If it is experience, gain experience and take every opportunity to expand your skills (specialty skills, precepting, committees, leadership ect.). If it is GPA, don’t be afraid to take some hard science classes. It will get your feet wet and will be impressive to the committee. Just be certain from reviews that the professor grades fairly! There are plenty of wonderful online courses out there that are convenient. I think most programs appreciate applicants that have the maturity to address their weaknesses and the resilience to not let rejection knock them down...

So did MSA not offer DNP spots?
