Military Move to florida

Published

Hello,

My spouse just got stationed in florida and we have to move by july . I finished nursing school in 2011 here in California. I have taken the nclex in 2012 and 2014 and did not pass. I applied for reexamination in California. I was hoping to take the test here in California and apply for licensure by endorsement in Florida but it looks like I still need more studying and I don't want to rush it and fail again.

My main concern is Florida accepting my application to test and receive license there when I finished school 3 yrs ago. Will that affect anything? Will if affect that I failed twice in cali?

Also, I did want to have a license in California because that is my home state so is it possible to test for nclex in florida and received license from California after I have moved. I have already paid California for reexamination and will receive eligibility letter soon.

Almost every nurse I worked with in FL that was from the Philippines took NCLEX for CA then transferred the license to FL by endorsement. Look into a refresher class or review class since so much time has passed

Are you sure that was the case? If it is it might have been a few years ago. I know CA is getting stricter with nurses from the Phillipines.

OP since you have never worked as an RN, you do not qualify for endorsement in Florida. You might qualify under inital application to state but you have to contact them. Also if you failed the NCLEX 3 times here you have to take a mandatory remediation course before you can test again. Best of luck to you!

If I were in your situation I would...

- Hire a tutor or pay for a review service.

The Board of nursing only allows 3 attempts (including when taken in another state). I see it as a pay for a review now or if you fail, pay for the
remedial course
later, and then pay for the NCLEX again.

- Take my NCLEX in California.

Don't compound the stress of moving by backing it up with your license exam. Study, take it, pass it, and move to FL with a completely fresh start. :)

- Upon receiving CA license, apply for endorsement in FL.

Best of Luck!

That is why the hospital did it that way, they are more strict than FL
