Hello everyone,
First, I wanted to say that this website has been very helpful in my research as a career guide. It is nice to know there are people out there that actually take the time to help.
Reasons why I am becoming a nurse. I have sat behind a desk for one year while completing my degree, and I have realized that I am way too active of a person to pursue that career lifestyle. I also am the one helping my friends out in some way.
I am leaving for Basic Training this Tuesday. I have joined the army and my MOS will be a Healthcare Specialist. I have just graduated with a BS in Psychology from Penn State. My future goal is to become a Nurse Anesthetist. I know I have quite a ways to go. I came onto this site looking for help with choices that I plan to make once I am done with active duty and become a Reservist.
Will my experience from the army help my admittance into BSN programs?
I hope to attend an Accelerated BSN. Are there helpful tips in picking a school that provides a program such as this? Such as Location (Urban vs. Rural) , Difficulty , and one that would leave me in better standing to get into a nurse anesthetist school.
About the Nurse Anesthetist, How hard is that program to get into? Is it a reliable career path compared to some other nursing paths?
I thank you for looking at my question. Have a nice day.

i just wanted to say good luck:up: with all your goals! joining the army is hard... my bf is currently in the army he joined 12 years ago- and is a staff sgt. [hooah! love him and damn proud to be an army gf!] it def has it's ups:nuke: and downs:angryfire- i don't know about it helping you with nursing- i know they pay for you to go to school while you serve- but while you are serving you pretty much belong to them. you have to go where they send you and you have to do things by their rules- it's so much different than civilian life- and it is very hard on relationships... we have been back together for a year and half now [dated previously in hs]- and i've only been to see him once in that time:cry:- it def gets hard- but i love :heartbeathim:redbeathe and have no doubt about our future. he is currently stationed at ft. bliss [el paso, tx]- [and i live in va] but he should be transferring this summer to ft. sill [oklahoma]. and hopefully in the near:icon_roll future i can join him there:lol2: or where ever he may be stationed. again good luck with everything:d and with hard work you will get there!

you may want to apply for "green to gold" after you have 2 years active duty. if accepted, you get pay and bennies to get a bs in a critical mos area (nursing sure applies). minimum asfabs apply, and you need at least an a.a., which you have covered.
my son is an active duty medical lab tech (at walter reed) and is trying this route as well. [it was a 91k, now some other name, same mos]
good luck!

68W is a Combat Medic, your basically in the front lines if you get deployed. I went to basic training this past summer 07, Fort Sill Oklahoma. While I was there my drill sergeant told me that i am better off going for commissioned officer because of my future degree in nursing. May 2008 hooah!! I joined the Army National Guard split program which basically means, i finish my basic training and then finish my AIT after i graduate. But, I decided to switch to Active duty Healthcare officer as a Nurse. I think that's a better way to pursue your army and nursing career. I too is gunning for the CRNA program in the army since it the 2nd best program in the country. Good luck in basic training, where r u going by the way?
