I saw that there wasn't a thread on MSU Spring 2013 yet... Recently received my acceptance letter through e-mail! So excited to get started on this new journey. Anyone else?!!
To the alum or current nursing students of MSU, any advice would be greatly appreciated
Everyone is entitled to their opinion obviously, but I personally don't think it is a miserable school or town to live in. Wichita Falls is not a lively hub of activity, but it isn't a terrible place to be either. If you come from a big city, it will be a change of pace for sure. There isn't a ton of stuff to do here but it is larger enough to have a mall, places to shop, good places to eat, movie theaters, a bowling alley, etc. The campus itself is very nice and has actually won awards for how beautiful it is. The campus is also located in a very nice area of town, close to everything you would want to do. I personally like the school, teachers, and my peers. The first semester was fun. I finished with straight A's in patho, health assessment/clinical, and intro. Intro is a class that focuses on the theories of nursing. It isn't the most fun class, but I am glad we were required to take it. I think it is important to know where nursing has been before you can understand where it is going, if you know what I mean. Health assessment was very interesting and important in my opinion. The class focuses on a body system approach of learning normal findings versus abnormal findings across the lifespan. The clinical portion spends each week going over a different body system and how to do a comprehensive assessment of a patient on that body system. You will have a partner for the semester and will do the assessments on one another. At the end of the clinical portion, you will be required to perform a complete head to toe assessment on your partner. It is pass or fail. It is challenging, but as long as you keep up and learn the skills as you go, you will be fine! Health assessment never goes away! It is the foundation for future classes so make sure you take it seriously! I suggest you keep your assessment text book for future reference. I don't think it is necessary to keep your intro book after the semester is over tho.
Good! You should be excited! Nursing school is challenging, yet very rewarding! I love it! As a current MWSU nursing student, I'll say we are very happy to have you! I love Midwestern and my fellow nursing students are so helpful and supportive! Hopefully you will have the same experience I have had so far. Feel free to send me a message or ask questions if you like. Congratulations and best of luck!!

Hey Shorty11! :) How is the first semester of the nursing program?? Thankfully, the only nursing classes I have to take are intro. to nursing and health assesment/clinical. Do you like the program so far? What do you like/dislike about the program?
