@PoweRNursing God, yes, there is TONS of reading!!! It's so much until you'll question will you be able to meet it by the deadline. Also, people think you don't study for NCLEX until nearing the end. That's not true. You start studying for NCLEX Day 1. We used Kaplan at my prior program. But other schools may use ATI or UWorld. That's additional reading on top of reading for the lecture.

Wow! That makes me nervous, but that is not enough to stop me. My biggest worry is that I will not study the right things. When I read, I always feel that everything is important. My notes get so long and take so much time that by the time I am done taking them, I sometimes don't even have enough time to study them! Do your teachers give you study guides or anything to help guide your learning. By the way, MGA uses ATI for their NCLEX study. I have heard people complain about it, but it prepares them. I am also going to buy the Saunders NCLEX review day one so I can have a comprehensive review. Any other study tips?
@PoweRNursing Right. If it's your passion, let N O T H I N G deter you! My instructors never gave us study guides but they would repeat certain things during lecture & that let us know to be knowledgeable about it. My tips would be, & this may sound obvious, but do not procrastinate. It's too much material & it'll be very hard, if not impossible, to catch up. Highlighters are your friends lol....I'm a highlighter queen. I even have a color coded system. Pinterest has great highlighter ideas as well. Read, then re-read. I'm a visual learner so me reading something once won't do me any good. I have to teach it to myself in a special way to have it down packed. Sitting in the front is a great idea also. There are too many distractions anywhere else. (Our lectures lasted anywhere from 4 to 8 hours a day. So I didn't want any distractions) There is a BIG difference between knowing the information & memorizing the information. It's people's lives we're saving so who would memorize you may say.....unfortunately a lot of students do. It's scary. Also, this isn't a study tip but it's a nursing school tip, you'll find people to study with or be drawn to but please don't clique up with the *wrong* people. Some will be failing silently & want to bring you down with them. I've seen it happen. Even our instructors warned us about toxic cliques. I've attached a quote that's on my book shelf with my nursing books. I live by it.

Thanks for the info! It is very encouraging! I hope we are in the same cohort so we can study together. I promise I will not bring you down, I am one of those people that stays in track and on topic. I have always struggled to find good study groups because the people use me. I take a lot of notes, read all of the assignments and ask the teachers questions. I like helping people, but I can tell if someone is just being my friend to get good grades. You seem like you are the total opposite of this, so maybe we can arrange something one we find out we got in (I believe we will!) the program! Did you read the other forums? Let me know if you have anymore Q's! My name is Michael by btw!

This is what sets apart a compassionate RN at heart from people just trying to get through. You are going to be an awesome nurse!

Just know you have a family here on the allnurses blog!To answer your questions, MGA is not that difficult to get into. Their average TEAS score for the ASN program Fall 2018 was a 71. Their average GPA was a 3.0. For the BSN, the average was 75 TEAS and a 3.45 GPA. From what I have heard, the instructors are all VERY nice! This is reflected in their NCLEX pass rates, which have climbed close to Emory's pass rates. The advisor, Lisa Kelly, is the best. She is helpful and can answer any of your questions. I will include some great contacts if you have additional questions about the program. When I asked my adviser about how competitive the program was, she said it really wasn't. I believe that she said, "BSN program accepts 100 and has about 160 applicants". This is not competitive (she aid so herself). If you do not mind me asking, what are your GPA/TEAS? My GPA is 4.0 and TEAS is 83. My advisor told me there was not really a chance that I would not get accepted. The following links will help answer your questions (look at page three of the Second one). Do not hesitate to keep asking questions I may have missed!

Hey there! I am applying to the Spring 2021 ASN program with an 82.7 TEAS and a 2.81 GPA. Do you know anyone who got accepted with similar scores? and could you explain to me how the ranking process goes? Does TEAS matter more?

WOW!! This is such an encouraging post!
@RN2020scm and @PoweRNursing, yall are going to be amazing nurses! @PoweRNursing I just found your posts on this forum and I have to say it's been really helpful and I thank you for that! It certainly gives me an idea of what to expect!
@abaxter I too, applied for the Spring 2021 ASN and BSN program though I really want to get into the ASN- I already have a B.S. and the cost of another really makes my pockets tighten! LOL I also don't think my GPA is good enough to get into the BSN program but I applied to just about every nursing program in central GA. I have a 3.2 GPA and scored an 80 on my TEAS. If you havn't went back and read some of the other posts here to get a better idea of STATS, I encourage you to do so. Good Luck and I hope we both make it to the 2021 cohort.

Thank you for the compliments. Because of technical difficulties I am applying to the Spring 2021 cohort as well. I pray we all get accepted.
@RN2020scm from what I see, you are already more prepared than me! So I don't think you will have a problem getting in.
@PoweRNursing I do have one question for you, if you don't mind me asking as you seem to be well informed on this process- Do they take your overall GPA on your transcript or do they have a "nursing GPA" which just includes pre-reqs to the program? If thats the case than my GPA is slightly higher than my overall 3.2. Any advice would be greatly apreaciated! Thanks!
I believe that they look at the overall GPA at first, however, as they are narrowing down the applicants they will look at the Nursing Core GPA. Honestly, as long as you have a strength in either GPA or TEAS you will be fine! Try and score high on the TEAS because that will balance your application out. Getting in is not as hard as other schools, so don't be super worried about that. I wish you good luck, and let me know how it goes! I'm in my 4th week so far and we have our first nursing exam the week after next! The program really is very well-rounded with the BEST instructors. If you get in the program my best advice is to make sure you do ATI ahead of time and finish your clinical orientations before the start of class. This will help you focus on the material better.
I will certainly keep you posted and thank you for the advice!
