Hey Y'all!
I am just wondering who all has applied to Middle Georgia State University this fall for the ASN program???
Also, how do clinicals work? Do you have them one day a week?? What specialties have you guys done rotations in? I was hoping we could to rotations in places like the OR, ICU, but some schools only do rotations in nurisng homes, med surg floors, L&D, etc. I am sorry I am asking so many questions, I just am so excited. Do you think I will have a problem getting in with my grades and TEAS score? People are telling me how hard it is to get in, I am just scared I wont get in. According to some people, my TEAS scores are sort of low, but I thought they were fine. Let me know!
I think you will have a good chance of getting in. Just make sure you send ALL required material together neat and follow their instructions. I had a low teas score and look at where I am now. Honestly I have never seen anyone that young in my cohort but I am sure if you have everything needed you will be fine.
Males: we have had 6-9 males in my cohort. Nobody treats anyone different whether you are male/female or whatever. You are ALL in this together trying to achieve the same goal. Being Male or female doesn’t change a thing. So don’t be nervous about that!
Working: If you can do it and keep up with the content and grades than go for it. I have worked since I was 13 and I have NEVER not had a full time job(sometimes even two jobs) until nursing school. I have that up to give me full 100% to this program. Some people can’t handle the job and work load so some people have had to either quit the program or quit there job in order to succeed. That is something you will have to figure out when you get into it.
Clinicals: we start clinicals our first semester and we continue them until our 4th and that is when we do our Precepting (Where we work the same hours as a nurse we are paired with usually 1:1 and same days etc)
You don’t get pick where you go for clinicals or your groups. I have been a great places so far and I have been in the OR, Cath-Lab, Pre-op/Post-op, Telle, renal, my friends have been in the ER. This semester I will be on L&D, and a Pediatric floor. For our Med-surg classes you will he placed on a Med-surg floor.
Thanks so much for the info again! When I posted my questions, I seriously doubted I would get a response, so thanks for being a blessing! I think that I can maintian a course load. All of my classes have been 8 weeks long each, so I am used to cramming. However, I will need some time to adjust to the structure of the assessments. I am very excited to apply. What area do you want to work in?
You are so very welcome.
Yeah 8 week long classes vs. roughly 6 months worth it’s extremely different I am just going to be blunt with you on that. All my free time goes to studying lol But like I said earlier if you want it as bad as you want to breathe then you will be successful. Anything is possible!
Will you be commuting to to the Cochran/Dublin campus?
My dream ever since I was little girl was to get into the Peds ER. My journey through nursing school has done nothing but solidified that goal for me. That is the ONLY thing I want. If I cannot get into Peds I was to do regular ER. I am actually from the Atlanta area and we have excellent Trauma Hospitals here so I am hoping I will score one of those. My whole entire family is First Responders or RNs, so like you, I have had a huge influence on what I want to do and what I want to work with.
I will be going to the Cochran campus for the Fall 2020. I would graduate high school early in Dec. and do the Spring 2020 in Dublin, but I will still be 17 years old and I think I have to be 18. I also don't want to rush this. People have been telling me to enjoy high school while I am here, but this is my second year of college, so I keep like wanting to finally graduate. However, my classes are paid for so that us a plus of being in high school. I would do BSN, but I have to work to afford school.
ER sounds sooooo cool! I have heard many great things about PEDS! It is definitely a good fit if you like children. I feel like I would not be able to do PEDS. I would just hate to see children suffering at such a young age. I know that seeing suffering as an RN is a daily part of their jobs, but seeing someone so young would be tough. However, the children need RN's, and saving them to give them a chance of life would be the best satisfaction. That is another thing that I would like about nurisng. It gives you a personal and moral satisfaction like no other job.
I feel so weird being a guy and feeling so much sympathy for people, but hey, it takes all kinds of people to run the world right.
I am expecting to having to study all the time. That brings me to ask the question. Do you use any other resources to study? Like maybe a review book or certain website? Do you take notes from the book? Something that I have hated in my online college classes is having to take notes from 40 pages because I did not have face to face lectures. It was so hard!
I think you will make a GREAT PEDS nurse! You seem like you have it together and can prioritize your priorities. Thanks again!
Yes, I love children, I don’t want any but I love them. I understand what you mean about seeing them suffer but at the same time I want to be there in their most vulnerable/critical time frame of their life and help them become better. I want to be the change and their hope to beat whatever they fighting against. I want to be the good to them on their worst and most scariest days.
I watch Registered Nurse RN a lot on YouTube as an outside source. I do not use other websites or like NCLEX books yet to study. I use my books from school, ATI, and lecture. I take my notes from lecture and my books. And that is how I study

THANKYOU SO MUCH FOR THIS INFO! I am actually going into the nursing program right out of high school, as I am a dual enrollment student. I am really nervous because number 1 I am young, and number 2 I am a male, and I know most student will be women. I just hope nobody thinks I am weird for being so young and a guy. I truly admire your courage and determination! You are just the kind of person I would love to study with. I am also nervous because I have to work full time while in school. Did you have to do this? Overall, I am determined to do this! I have worked too hard to go to nursing school to just give up. My mom and my sister are RN's so they have been really making me nervous about what to expect, but they said it is doable so I am going to try very hard. I don't know why I am stressing so much, the application doesn't even open until January!!! I like to look ahead though. Thanks for the info, and congratulations fro making it this far, I know you will pass the NCLEX!!!!
