okay, thats great if you took the tabe a test and scored 12.9 and 11.3 in math you are good to go and i dont see why you need to take the prep class, in order to get into the program you need a 11.0 in reading and 10.5 in math. i suggest you pay for the cnet and take it ,i dont think you will get a "pass" into the program. there was someone last year that was also in the lpn prep class and had to take the cnet ..and failed and couldnt get into the program. tabe if its tabe a is harder then the cnet! the cnet is nothing compare to tabe a ( please make sure its tabe a, because thats the one that you are going to take) if not go to barnes and nobles and buy tabe a study guide. like i said before if you took the tabe a and got your score then you dont need the class.

please send out your $35 and register like everyone else for the cnet, please dont miss out the due date because you are confused about what you are suppose to do next, you need to pass the cnet in order to take the tabe!!!!!! if you pass then you get a call!!

for paulino , good thing you live in the bronx, lol and that the manhattan school is closer to you! i dont know about the the brooklyn schoollllllllllll, let me stop! someone posted somewhere on all nurses and the person saids" oh i wouldnt recommend the brooklyn school, go to the manhattan school" when i read that i said whatever girl, let me see what its about, " now i know why she said that! its just alot of reading and teachers do not hold you hand, period. you read it, discuss it with your study group (if you have one) then you get a test, every week!!

every week we have a new chapter! , even for pharmacology! can you imagine that!!!!!!!!!!teachers do not discuss. but its okay. :)

i think the manhattan school is better, the teachers seem so nice and it look like they care and are willing to help and discuss the work, but i live a few mins from the brooklyn site thats why im there!

goldwater is beautiful, the teachers are so warm! and nice.

oh well i have to live with brooklyn site, some teachers are nice tho, not giving any names, but make sure you are there for nursing and only nursing, be prepare to read.

also!!!! the brooklyn school this year had about 80 people, the manhattan school had about 40!!!! omg!! thats a great advantageeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee most of the people in bk school live in bk or queens thats why they go there. the manhattan school had less people, more teacher on student studying!!! thats a great place to learn.! good luck paulino!!!!

reading is a beautiful instrument.

just remember when you start, i dont believe in working and attending nursing school, its 9-4, this is your full time job, yeah you dont get a paycheck, you get something else. knowlegde! and when you grad you wont even look back!! dedicate 2-3 hours a night of studying, waking up at 4am and being real close to your classmates.

sad, i miss my babys first real steps, oh well daddy caught them!

good luck to all , its a wonderful journey! its decemeber 12 already! omg. next month , if god is willing.... clinicals baby!!

may the lord bless me, isaiah and my brain everyday! :) :loveya:

hi

i contacted nyc health and hospitals corporation about the "free lpn program" and they sent me a letter saying: you must take a preliminary tabe (reading and math) exam to determine your eligibilty to be enrolled in the lpn prep program. you must score at least 10.0 in reading and 9.5 in math. all succesful candidates will be notified if scores meet the criteria for enrollment immediately after the exam. the prep program will begin january 2009 and run thru may 2009.

i took the test dec 1st scored 12.9 reading and 11.3 math. made it into lpn prep!!

so at the test site after they told me i passed and made it into lpn prep, they gave me a paper with some what of an outline as to what the next steps would be. they also told me that they'd mail me the info as to where id be takin my lpn prep classes and when in january the clases actually start.

my concern is should i still apply to take the c-net. i would hate to have missed the dead line assuming that this lpn prep course is kinda like a pass...

lastly i'm new to the site ive been reading every and anything on hhc, balc, mid manhattan and coler gold water but have yet to see any info on this lpn prep class. from what ive gathered this prep seems to be exclusively given to those who've applied thru the hhc nursing program. im sure someone has taken the lpn prep class. any info would be greatly appreciated. in the mean time i guess i'll just wait on that letter. im sure it'll have more info. i just feel like they left me hanging and since the prep starts in january im getting anxious.

thanks

How many people are in the class? I have a few friends trying to get in for 2009 and was just curious.

ok so this is what the sheet they gave me after passing the prelimenary tabe to get into the lpn prep class says,

*you've been invited to participate in the cnet preparation program.

*candidates who attend the cnet prep program will be reassessed after completeing the prep and must achieve at least a 11.0 in reading and 10.5 math

*in order to successfully complete the prep candidates must maintain 90% attendance, candidates who complete the lpn prep will take the cnet exam in early may.

i have 2 questions because this is clear yet still a little vaugue 2 me

*about the tabe- the one that i took to get into this prep i heard was an easier level of the exam..level d i believe and they said the next tabe would be level a.

1. at what point during the prep do we take the tabe again? right b4 the cnet? i'm assuming we have to pass the tabe in order to be allowed to take the cnet (since the letter says we'd be reassessed) but when do they administer that exam? a week b4? a month?

or

2.is it the cnet first and then the tabe a???

sorry if i sound a bit confused or even worse confusing you and any other posters but i just wanna know what i should start studyin for first.

like i said before, in order to take tabe a you need to pass the cnet, if you do not pass the cnet they will not let you sit and take the tabe a exam. yes you might practice the tabe a in school but thats just practuce, in order to take the real tabe a you need to pass the cnet. also i have no idea because i didnt attend the prep program so i do not know when they will give you the practice tabe a exam, but from what your letter saids you take the cnet in may when you complete the cnet prep program. i think you will practice the cnet study guides with the class and your teacher and when you all are prepare for the cnet the teacher will continue and help you guys practice for the tabe a exam

yes cnet is first then its the tabe a exam. i think you should start studying both, but take it day by day you got into a prep program so the teacher will help you out alot, you have 4 months to study! the cnet is basic reading and math the math questions are divideing ,multiplying subtracting ,like i said basic! the only thing is that you are timed!!!! i think 1 hour for like 60 questions! so you really need to buy those study guides and time your self like i did, you need a 40 to pass, i scored a 69 math i think which is very good.

the tabe is something you really need to study hard!!!! very hard , like i said go to barnes and nobles and by the study guide book. you need that! the math is harder and so is the reading

in the math you have 25 mins to complete 50 questions. .... just take you time and study now! you have alot of time! :)

so you already know, you need to take the cnet before you take the tabe

from what i read on the paper i dont think you have to send out a application for the cnet, but i think you should and when you send it out buy 2or 3 practice books with the study guide and study! the more the better practice:heartbeat

also are they taking more people for the prep program still? when does it start? is it in the morning, let me know.

futurernelizabeth,

thank you for all of your advice and patience in taking time out to respond to my inquiries. i've found it very helpful. i kno i was posting some what confusing questions but i'd like to take this post to clarify that since im doing this lpn program thru nyc hhc (nyc health and hospitals corporation ) our application process might differ in that sense. id also like to add that it wasnt until now after doing further research that i have found a few members on this site who did the lpn program thru hhc so directing my questions to them would generate clear and more relevant concise responces.

ohh and about buyin the study books @ bn i was thinking i should go ahead and do that but im not sure if the program would provide us with books...probably not. but i'm certainly lookin into that!

to answer your question:

i contacted nyc health and hospitals corporation in august about the "free/scholarship lpn program" and they sent me a letter in the mail saying:

you must take a preliminary tabe (reading and math) exam to determine your eligibilty to be enrolled in the lpn prep program. all succesful candidates will be notified if scores meet the criteria for enrollment immediately after the exam. the prep program will begin january 2009 and run thru may 2009.

i took the test dec 1st

i know they're still testing thru the 18th of this month but im sure its for those who contacted hhc and recieved a notice in the mail specifying their test date. (it wasnt like a "just walk in and take the lpn prep program test" type thing)

and as i stated in the above the prep starts in january- im still waitin for my letter in the mail which they said they'd start mailing after the last test date dec 18th . it should state where i'll be taking my prep (balc,mid-manhattan or goldwater) the time and days during the week. what i gathered from another member (allicat-who's currently doing the lpn program thru hhc/scholarship @ goldwater) -she said the prep is in the evening from about 4pm-7pm tuesday wednesday and thursday

hope that answered your question:redbeathe

Elizabeth, wishing you all the luck in the world as you begin your clinicals next month. You will be great. God bless!

elizabeth, when do you guys get pinned over at balc

Specializes in "Im going to be a RN,Im goin to be a RN".

cushenry! they told us capping is tuesday Jan 13,2009. they said we have to go to mid manhattan, i dont understand what capping is for? is that when we get our pin? They also said if we dont pay the other part they will basically count us out..how is it going with your guys in mid manhattan? is capping the same day?? Let me know

oh yeah! Finals this week! :yeah:

Elizabeth.

Yeah all three programs will be getting capped at mid-manhattan on Jan.13th, i guess this is when we where our uniforms and get capped as official nursing students and pledge to do no harm- but im just guessing here. We have test coming up but am not sure if theyre finals but i hope so because i cant wait for this term to be over.As far as paying term two fee we know that the money is due this week but we have not been officially asked for it.

Can you pay the whole thing in one shot? Just asking!

You pay per semester, because you may not advance from term one to term two

how much is it from term to term? if we pass our C net exam do we get in the program or is there a wait list?
