What is a banana bag?

Oh TOOO funny,....next time I have to hang MVI I will be hearing that song in my head. I can just imagine walking down the hall smiling to myself and others wondering what's up. :chuckle

Is there a technical name, for example, can I find it in a nurse med book under something specific?

Specializes in Emergency, Trauma.

Probably not; its more of a slang term...would need to look up individual components; MVI, thiamine, folate.

Specializes in STICU, CVICU, Flight.

Considered malpractice not to hang bananas on a known ETOHer, because it can ward off Korsakoff Syndrome (ETOH brain damage). Unused, expired banana bags and lipid free TPN are hot commodities in my hospital. Apparently they are the best orchid food around!

Specializes in Developmental Disabilities, LTC.

Ugh! My mom used to play her Harry Belafonte albums 24/7 when I was a kid, so that's all that song will ever remind me of!

It's actually about slave labor...I believe the Haitians were made to bunch bananas, like slaves were to pick cotton here.
