Okay everyone, I was looking at a site that had the index of a Microbiology text book and was wondering if its a similarity of information that is taught in a Principles of Nurtrition course that gives a introduction to somethings taught in Microbiology. I say this because in the site it had a section where it talked about the sugars in the cells, polysaccharides ect. Also it mentioned about metabolism, amino acids, and sanitation in cell formation. Just some of the things that was taught in Principles of Nutrition. I mean I know its not alot of things that aren't, but hey maybe its best to take Principle of Nutriton and Biology before taking Microbiology. I was just seeing if anyone else see the simalirities of the two courses? Tell me what you ladies and gents think!

If a program requires Bio and Micro, usually they want you to take Biology first. I don't see a huge benefit to taking Nutrition before Micro though.

We spent a lot of time in nutrition learning about fats, proteins, carbs, minerals and nutrients and how they are metabolized and stored by the body...calories, eating disorders, etc.
We spent a lot of time in microbiology learning the morphology and characteristics of all sorts of microorganisms as well as laboratory techniques to stain microorganisms and how to identify them through laboratory testing.
Both classes are common in that they emphasize some common metabolic pathways, but I didn't think the two classes were very similar as far as overall content goes. I loved microbiology, but I couldn't get very excited about my nutrition class.
If anything, I'd say A&P prepared me pretty well for nutrition. Once you know all the parts and functions of the digestive system from an A&P perspective, nutrition was pretty easy!
