Microbiology Fall 2006

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Starting a new thread and hopefully someone in the know will make it a sticky ;)

Got an 84 in my first Micro exam last week. Not what I wanted (I had a 4.0 going into this semester), but considering the class average was 71 I'll take it and move on. Lab mid-term grades aren't back yet though and that one has me worried.

How's everyone else doing?

I put in about 6 hours over a week and got a 96 on exam three.

To get an A in the class I need a 94 (not so sure about that)

To get a B in the class, I need at least a 61 (heh, think I'm good there)

To get a C in the class (the minimum grade we can get on a prereq and still get into the nursing program), I need at least a 27 (umm...let's just say I hope I can get more than 1/4 of the questions right...my goodness!)

Best wishes to you all. 9 days till my final!

If you got a 96 on #3, you can surely repeat it for the final. Fingers and other extremities crossed here for ya ;)

Thanks! I'm finding it REALLY hard to get motivated to study, but I am gonna start studying tonight!

Edited due to typo

We've gotten quiet here! Now that we're heading into the home stretch, how is everyone doing? I'm just coming off a great lab last night so I'm rather pumped about Micro. Its frustrating at times, but I'm so loving this biological unknown stuff - its so cool to conduct my own research to find out what two microbes are really in tube # 9. I'm thrilled to have discovered #1 is a gram-negative coccus and #2 is a gram-positive rod.

Home stretch indeed! The big Final is tomorrow....3pm...ooh! I am going to get my rear in gear to study today, because I must confess not much studying has been going on the last week. I went out of town over the weekend, which was great fun and a needed break...now I gotta pull out two more days of hardcore studying before another fun and relaxing trip. Road trips are one of the best parts of college. This weekend's one is with my mom! :)

Any one else finishing up before Thanksgiving? Doing anything special to celebrate being done?

I'm taking micro this semester. It's def. has gotten more difficult. What's the point of memorizing all those proteobacterias? My school is suppose to make a new microbiology class just for nursing students. My current class is for nursing and biology majors. Anyway I can't wait to be done with this class and I'm not looking forward to doing my 16 page report on my unknown.

Sending you good thoughts today! Be sure to let us know how it went, okay?? :)

I understand your point but I like the fact that I'm educating myself and not just preparing to get into nursing clinicals. I love learning why antiviral meds are so difficult to develop, etc. Plus I have post-ADN/BSN plans so I'd have to take the "real" science classes anyway.

Wow, you have to do a report on your unknown? I'd hate that too :( So far all we have to do is identify the two microbes that are in the unknown.

Good luck! :)

Wow. That does sound like your class is really hard. I honestly am not sure what you mean by proteobacteia.... Our class is for nursing and pre-med majors.

Our "big project" was to complete a set of case studies (I think there were 6) that involved a pretty decent amount of research, and definitely required using outside sources. In lab, we did some "unknown" identities, but it just like a question or two on a couple of our lab worksheets. For the first 2/3 of the class we focused on the background (disease process, types of microorganisms, pharmacology, etc) and for the last 1/3 we took a system by system approach to the infectious diseases. I have my final in a little less than two hours...finally got motivated to get some studying done. I found a website with some little quizzes about infectious disease and used those last night. I'll post the link on here later, I don't have it with me here at school.

DONE! At 3:35pm today, I finished my last final as a pre-nursing major...yay for Micro being done!

The test was hard, but not as hard as I thought. I'm expecting to come out with a B or C. That should give me a B in the class.

Now I get to put in my nursing school application. There's not really much question as to whether I'll get in, as my GPA is high and at my school it's all about GPA. So, now I get a 4 month break because the new nursing class doesn't start till March. Whew!

Best wishes to those finishing up Micro...keep it strong till the end! Keep us all posted on how it's going!

Congratulations!! You did it and came out alive at the other end!!

Thanks DaughterofRuth. It's nice to be done, but it definitely hasn't sunk in yet. I woke up this morning reviewing diseases in my head...then remembered oh yeah, I'm done. :)

I am officially done with my pre-nursing stuff! I have a meeting in a couple weeks just to make sure they got all my transfer stuff done correctly and then I will be applying and my gpa is really high so I am good to go for nursing school (assuming they don't screw up my transfer credits...they've done ok with it so far.)

Got the Micro Test results back.....yeah, I got a B on the final! Heck yes! And a B in the class...oh yeah. I am really happy!
