Microbiology & Chemistry Summer Classes?!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

HI all,

This is my first time on this site! It seems perfect, I have so many questions that I feel like I bug people with!

So here is my dilemma. I am trying to get my sciences done by a certain time, but in order to do that I have to take Chem & Micro this summer... The nursing counselor advised that I do not take both one summer... but I am torn. I am okay at science I got an A in the anat/phys mix class but need to redo the anat and phys separately for the RN program...But I had to work really hard for the A.

I do not have to work and can be dedicated to the summer classes.... but I am 19 and still feel like I have SOOO much to learn. Is this challenge even in reach? I also want to get a good grade, not just passing. I think I can do it but so scared of failing  but again if I dont get them done in time I have to wait an entire year to even apply.

ADVICE?

I have to take both Microbio and A&P II last summer so that I don't have to take them together with my Nursing subjects for the next semesters. I work full time so i have to take microbio in the morning then go to work then a&p at night. That's a 14 hour day, 4 days a week for 8 weeks. By the 8th week, I finished 2 bottles of TUMS since beginning of class. I managed to get an A in Microbio but just barely a B in A&P. Oh by the way, I have a family too... What I'm trying to say here is you can do it. It just depends on how motivated you are.

Micro...no problem, it is not any harder than A&P for most people. Chemistry, on the other hand, seems to be difficult for just about anyone. I couldn't imagine taking Chemistry in 8 weeks.

I agree with post No. 2, Chem in the summer will kick your butt. I am good at Chem, really good, but I just dont think anyone should take that course in the summer. It takes too much time to study, do lab reports, do lecture, do lab... Its just not a good idea. A&P, Micro, anything else, no problem, but chem, no way, not if you are shooting for a 4.0.

Heres my percentages so you can see where I am coming from.

96% Chem 101

100% A&P I (summer I, 5 weeks)

98% A&P II (summer II, 5 weeks but I had to pack and move a house by myself mid semester so my grades dipped)

You can totally do it! I'm a senior and have taken summer classes every year in order to graduate on time. From my experiences, summer classes have to be shorter so alot of material is cut out. Yeah it's fast paced, but I took organic chemistry one summer and it was a breeze!

you guys seem sooo smart! lol...

@ my school they only do anatomy and then separate physiology... I attempted to take anatomy this semester but knew it was going to take so much time on top of my 16 other units.. but judging from that, if i think anatomy is hard then chem must be CRAZY... i love math tho....

everyone is very positive, but if i fail i am only aloud one W... and of course i dont even want that!

hhhhh.. decisions decisions...

Again, take your time, a delay of plans in order to get a good grade is better than an termination of plans from getting a bad grade.

This is true! In the long run, having good grades and getting into a good nursing school is what we need! We have the rest of our lives to work, and one extra year tacked onto the schooling is no big deal.
