Has anyone done this? If so, how was it? I'm thinking about taking speech (first session of summer- 4 wks) and then Micro the second session so I can apply to my nursing school Fall 2007. The rush is my time is running out staying with my mom, they are selling their house and other various reasons but I want to have this finished so I can relax a little after this.
Another thing I have to consider though is people entering this particular nursing program can bypass the waiting list altogether if their gpa is above 3.5. I have a 3.56 right now, I don't know if taking micro in the summer will sacrifice that . . .

Hi Ethnic,
I took Micro last semester and while I loved the class, it just about kicked my butt!! It was very interesting and I loved the hands on lab, but I don't think that I could handle taking it in the summer. I know a lot of people at my CC take it in the summer, though. There is just so much to learn, and with lab being 2x a week in regular session, it is a 3 hour day 4 days a week in the summer. That doesn't even include lecture time. But...please do not let me keep you from taking it if you are really needing to. I would just tell you to be really prepared to study and work hard. I took the class along with A&P II and Psych, so I felt like I was doing nothing but studying
I do know that at my CC, they offer Micro as a long summer session which is an eleven week class. Do you know if your school has a long session? Whatever you decide to do, good luck with it. I can understand your need to take classes in the summer to apply this fall. That is what I did last summer also. I got 4 classes out of the way so I could apply for the spring. Otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to be sure of getting in until next spring.

micro involved lots of information, you'd have to work your butt off if you plan to take it in the summer in which classes are condensed into weeks
I believe this class is going to be an 11 week class, I've heard a lot of good things about the professor as well.
I feel as though I'm doing nothing but studying now too blessed! I'm taking Anatomy, Physiology (seperately) and Human Development and it's a lot of work. I'm glad to hear you were able to get 4 classes out of the way last summer (good job by the way, that must have been hectic!)

Here's what I do for as many of my classes as I can...especially for short summer ones....I start early. First I go online to my school website and do a search for my Prof's name and the course number...or my Prof's name and the word syllabus....if I find their syllabus, I'm golden and get to work on the first couple of chapters.....if I come up empty....then I e-mail the Prof to see if they'll let me know where we'll start....I haven't had one who wouldn't tell me.
Since I (as many do here) work full time while carrying a full academic load....I'm always looking for ways get ahead of my classes before the term starts....that way, if I fall behind, I'm not actually behind....did that make sense?
Peace,
Cathie

I took Micro during the summer semester & really liked it! It was the only class I took during the summer & yes it was hard, but really fun. I think w/ the hard classes I prefer to "get them over with" & take during summer ... also going M-R really helps keep it in your head. If you have the time, I'd recommend it.
