Hi,

I am a college student in MI. I am interested in becoming a nurse. I would like to get into the BSN program at EMU. I am new to all of this, I am not sure what to expect, how clinicals work, etc. Any advice and help would br greatly appreciated. I am new to this forum and am also not sure if nursing is for me due to the math and the science and also being a male. Looking forward to any help and guidance.

Justin

Hey Justin welcome to the forum. Congratulation on your choice to go to nursing school. Whether you decide on an ADN or BSN you really should concentrate on getting the highest possible grade point in your pre-requisite classes. I would say that anything less than a 3.6 average and you will be limiting your options on where you would like to attend.

As far as pre-requisites physiology and anatomy are probably the hardest classes but are the most valuable to you as a new student nurse so study hard and ask your professor LOTS of questions about what you don't understand and even what if? type questions.

Clinicals can be kinda scarry at first but you'll get comfortable really quick working with patients and helping them get better. You usually start in the nursing home, then progress to an acute care setting (hospital), then to pediatrics, OB, mental health etc. Before you know it you'll be done.

I don't know much about EMU, I attend Lansing Community College Accelerated ADN program which is extremely competitive but it has been well worth the effort.

Good luck!
