Any other WCCCD Spring 2010 hopefuls?

Long-time (then-unregistered) lurker, first time poster.

Has anyone else applied to the WCCCD nursing program for Spring 2010? I applied yesterday (the 6/15 meeting) at the Western campus. I didn't pay much attention to how many people showed up, but it was held in the lecture hall, which I think seats 100, and almost every seat was filled. However, quite a few people had to leave because they tried submitting a copy of a reference or a copy of their NET scores (instead of the originals), or had done the background check/MSP clearance more than 30 days ago, so I'm sure the June 30th meeting will be a mad-house.

The meeting wasn't anything like I'd expected - but then, that's what I get for listening to the "My friend applied, and s/he said..." lines, right? ;) After weeks spent fretting over things - are my references long enough? Is my essay good enough? Is 85 a good enough NET score? - it was kind of anti-climactic. That said, I'm incredibly relieved to have gotten that over with.

I'm not stressing out about getting in (but am by no means assuming I will be accepted; why jinx myself?), but I am dreading this Waiting Game.

According to that "FYI" poster-board, the Happy/So Sorry letters should start going out in August, so I've already warned my (very awesome) postal carrier that I may become a bit stalkerish come August. :lol2:

Anyway, I'm just curious to see if anyone else here will be starting the program at the same time (should we be accepted, of course!). I already know two women I'm sure will get in, but it couldn't hurt to know a few more, right? ;)

Hey I also applied for spring 2010 start. I was kind of upset because in the information packet it said the meeting would be held at the Northwest campus. I drove all the way out there ( when the western campus is closer) just for them to tell me this. I got there a little early about 4:30 so that many people werent there yet, but there was about 5 of us. I'm sure more showed up after I left though. They had applications and let people feel them out and turn them in there even though the meeting was at the western. How did u find out the meeting was at the western campus? I'm just a little worried that maybe those people might have forgot something in their packets because no one checked them like before at the past meeting. I wasnt worried about my application because I was re applying so I just dropped off my file which I'm sure was more than complete. I really just wanted to attend the meeting to see when we would possibly get our letters and to see the turn out. I'm praying I get in this time because I finished all pre and co reqs 3.8 GPA in pre reqs, 3.5 overall and all done a WCCCD.. lets all keep our fingers crossed

I went to the information meeting in May, and Mrs N. told us then that all June meetings would be at Western. (I'm guessing it has something to do with the financial aid/loan check audit. I hear it was crazy at NW on the 15th [someone even got arrested!], what with so many people there to get their checks.)

If any of them were like me, they did! :lol2: That FYI board saved me from turning in an incomplete packet, since I had no idea we were supposed to sign and date our essays.

According to the FYI board, the Happy/So-Sorry letters should go out for Fall in April, and for Spring (us!) in August. You really didn't miss much at the meeting (mine, anyway). Mrs N. didn't do much other than hand out the applications, yell at a few people who asked her if they could turn in copies of the reference letters or NET scores, and staple things together.

I believe the 3.8 will be what they look at (co-reqs and pre-reqs), so you should be fine! :) I'm done with all my co-reqs as well except for HSC100, which I'm taking this Fall.

Of course - and a bit of :plsebeg:

I am applying on June 30th. I have no high hopes of getting in the program. I mean don't get me wrong I am dying to get in but I don't think i will. I have a 3.4 gpa. I got B's in micro and a&p 1 and 2. And A's in everything else. I took everything at wcccd. and have all but 1 co req done (HSC 100). I am currently retaking a&p1 over again because i got a B and want an A. If i don't get in i would have just wasted this semester to improve my gpa so i just used it wisely. I am extremely nervous though.

The low-end GPA fluctuates, so you never know - 3.4 might get you in this semester! If not, you can always re-take A&P 2 and Micro in Fall, then apply for the Fall 2010 semester. :)

I am applying on June 30th as well. Just wondering where I can find the FYI board you are referring to. I missed the meeting on Monday, a huge mistake on my part! and would like to make sure I have everything complete. Thanks!

If it's in the same room the 6/15 meeting was in (the lecture hall with the theater-like seating), Mrs N brought in the FYI board (which looks like this, only black), unfolded it, and stood it on the long brown table at the front of the room. Assuming she'll accept/staple applications at the front of the room, you really can't miss it. Make sure to read everything on it.

On the off-chance it's not there, just remember to submit the original copies of your NET scores and references (which have to be signed in pen, and preferably dated in hand as well), make sure your background check/clearance isn't more than 30 days old, write "N/A" in every space that doesn't apply to you (don't leave a single space blank), and put your initials by the staple once she staples your packet.

Good luck! :D

Thanks Shannon! Since this is the last shot for Jan 2010, I hope I have it all! Will keep you posted! Do you know if they let you come to the NW campus just to make sure you have it all, since there is no way to get anything you may need once you are at the application meeting?

Do you mean going to NW before the meeting just to check that you have everything? I doubt they'd be very helpful - that would make too much sense for them to do. :lol2: Whenever someone calls WCCCD with a nursing question, they're told to go to an information meeting, so they'd probably just tell you to refer to the info packet and any notes you took at the information meeting.

I'm by no means an expert, but if you're not sure whether you have everything or have any questions about the meeting, you can always email me. (My email is the same as my MSN messenger handle in my profile under Contact Info.) :)
