Miami Dade College Part Time RN

Published

Hey Everyone!

Does ANYONE know about the part time program at MDC? What is the weekly schedule like for that program? How many semesters? Does anyone recommend it? Is anyone currently in that program or have completed it? Let me know PLEASE!!

Hi Guys Im currently in my 4th semester of the part time track at MDC. Im taking the 2nd half of med-srg lecture and clinical, and now pharm. Its hectic, a lot of projects, paperowrk, tests, an these courses are very difficult in comparison to the first 2 semesters. The classes are pretty much laid out for you by the school. For ex. I have class now on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6p-745p and clinical on Sat from 7a-1245p. Not too bad if you work a reg weekday 9-5 job. People say its not as intensive as the full time but I beg to differ. It does take 2 1/2 years to complete vs 1 1/2 (full time) or 1 year (accelerated)

The Partime Program in Miami dade college is as hard as a nail.Work and study is not easy, and they treat you as if you were a full time student, desorganization in the program is a must, support you'll get minimun ,professors quality they have such an ego bigger than the school, but nothing out this world. You'll find good professors too, specially in clinicals or labs, but when it come to lecture it sucks.May be coz is the part time program;scheduling a lab for practice good luck with that, some times it seems that they think youre there for free, but you're paying, less but still youre paying, what I mean is you don't get the attention you deserve.Grading criteria in lectures make sure you score high on first tests,or you'll suffer. We started like 40 now in 4th semester remain around 27.

if you are a new nurse student starting the program I highly recomend you buy a test taking strategy book for nursing,it will help you a lot for sure, some people record lectures,it may help, combine the book and the power points, study every day at leats 2hr M-friday.Remember is the part time program and believe me they don't care if you fail at all.

Some professors read straigh from the Power point,so teaching quality low, expect classes of 25 cents and test of a dollar which means no equity with what you've taught in class and the test that by the way some times have errors and wrong answers,or more than one possible answer, be aware to argue that with your book on hand carefully, and go over test reviews is very important. You'll put 90% effort the other 10% comes from the faculty:clown:.

Don't be scare is just my opinion, Im passing in the program with A and B's but I'm killing my self too, stress is so high that a C is a blessing.Go for it, become a nurse from MDC.Full time program is a lot easier,so you'll have more time to study.

THANKS a bunch for that info.

Most interesting is the 40 starters to 27 still in the program.

Is that from drop-outs or fail-outs?

Also, please elaborate on why you think the full-time program is easier.

Is it because

FULL-TIME = school only / no work

PART-TIME = school + work

Do you work? How many hours a week?

THANKS

:-) :)

I went to the Medical Campus a couple of weeks ago and was told that for the P/T RN classes are held on weekday afternoons (Im assuming 4PM-???) and clinicals are on Saturdays.

I heard horrible news they only take 50 students per year :(

I have a question what was your gpa and what score did you got on the teas so you can get accepted to the part time because i heard they only accept 50 students per year so i want to know at least what i need to have to get accepted to the part time program.

My GPA was 4.0 at that time. When I took the Teas test was a practice test only but I scored an 80.The next year became effective and mandatory.

good luck and keep the faith.the teas is not that bad.

Ok Full time is may be little bit easier because you don't work and can dedicate more time to study but nursing school is hell everywhere. You'll always have to study remenber this is public college mostly,is cheap but sometimes you get what you pay for. However passing scores are really high in the NCLEX, so try to survive and be always positive.Don't forget to do test taking strategies they help a lot.

I work 40 hours a week , finish at 4pm. the part time ussualy is 2 days a week, tuesdays and wenesdays and clinicals on saturdays. But some times you'll have clinical labs on saturdays it all depends of what schedule you pick up.Some semesters you'll have class only one day a week and clinical on saturdays from 7 to 12:30 or 1:pm

I am taking the TEAS for the second time, do any of you know if you take the test a second time, do they give you a different test or slightly different then the first one?

Hi,

probably replying too late to help you. but one person told me (that took it 30 days later) it was almost identical to the first exam they took. Don't know if that was a fluke or when they change the exam... or how often they change the exam.

GOOD LUCK.
