Miami Dade College Accelerated Program Fall 2010

U.S.A. Florida

Does anyone know when MDC starts sending out acceptances for the Accelerated Program for Fall 2010?

I am still taking my pre-req's and have 4 more classes left before I can apply. I currently have a 4.0 GPA and I hope it continues that way. Once you get your ASN will you apply to their BSN program? How difficult was it to get into MDC?

Sheeco with your GPA you should be just fine if your going for the accelerated/bridge program....now the generic program seems to be more tricky. If you are near Broward College try them also...I was trying with MDC for 6 yrs and never got in (I didnt have the best GPA though) and finally decided to try Broward College and got in on the first try. I start Jan 2011. Good luck!

Oh and FYI Broward College also has the RN-BSN program that begins Jan 2011.

I am a Dade Generic Student. I was also accepted into the Accelerated Program. The cutoff this semester was a 3.8 in A/P, A/P II, Chemistry, Micro, and English. Apply to several schools in the area, as there are many applicants for the nursing program. Nova, Barry, Dade College are the ones I liked. I like to see the NCLEX scores of schools, and compare against the number of people that applied. graduated/# accepted into program. Gives me a good idea of how many people make it through the progam.;)

Wow! That's great information, how do you find out the NCLEX scores of the schools and the rest of the stuff you mentioned? Was MDC and Barry up there?

How do you like the MDC's program? Is it so hard that you are barely passing like I have heard from so many? Is it true there aren't many professors to teach the nursing program?

So the only courses they look at are the ones you mentioned above? The science courses I have taken and am currently taking are at MDC but my English courses were from Barry.

Are you considering going into the BSN program? I hear its 2 years which is a long time for me.

How was the TEAS V exam?

Thanks for the info! :lol2:

I have heard horror stories from this forum board so it has kinda deterred me from considering BCC. Have you heard the same?

At BCC did you take the HESI, if so how did you fair, and the HCP 0001 Health Career Core (Is this completed in one day and do you have to pay for it?), HSC 1149 Pharmacology (MDC doesn't require this course until you enter the program), and Completion of the following certificates: HSC0405 BLS-Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers 3-8 Contact Hours, the CPR curriculum must be approved by the American Heart Association and/or American Red Cross; HSC0691 Domestic Violence 2.0 Contact Hours; HSC0591 HIV/AIDS 4.0 Contact Hours; HSC0522 OSHA/TB/Hepatitis 6.0 Contact Hours; CAE 0528 Prevention of Medical Errors 2.0 Contact Hours. All of these certificates you have to pay for? How long did it take you to complete?

Why is the generic program at MDC more tricky?

I have gone to the medical campus at MDC twice and they can never seem to answer my questions so I depend on other classmates or professors or this forum.

I wouldn't apply till the end of 2011 for the 2012 term. The timing might be a problem. Lets say I finish Fall 2011, and the program starts Spring 2012, I do not know if I will have time to finish all the requirements. What do you think?

I too have heard horror stories but I have 2 freinds who completed the program there and they did just fine and one who is 1 year into it now and she so far is doing well also. I'm hoping I have the same luck...I am just tired of waiting on Dade.

Yes I took the HESI...at first BC said the score didnt matter and I believe their website insinuates that as well but its not true. I scored high on all sections except A&P where I score a 72 (passing was 75 or higher) I kept delaying on re-taking that section because everyone I called at BC said the score didnt matter that I just had to have taken the test. Through conversations in this site me and some other students retook those sections that were not 75% or higher and we were accepted the same day we turned in the new scores.

As for the HCP0001 I did not have to take it. I am an EMT and was able to get that course waived but if I'm not mistaken you can do it online through Sheridan Techinical Center (I'm sure if you do a search u can get more info). Oh and yes you have to pay but I dont know how much.

Pharmacology math you take in your first semester of nursing in BC.

You can get all these certificates for $30 through ceufast.com but those you need to do only when you know you've been accepted..not needed to apply to the program.

I say tricky from what I have read here. I've read some people have 3.8s for example and didnt get in (dont quote me on the GPA but it was high which really surprised me).

As far as timing goes you need to have all your required courses completed prior to applying because obviously they need to calculate your GPA. But if BC becomes an option for you then look at their course requirements on their site. At BC you need to have English 1101, Chemisty lecture only, A & P 1 with the lab, A & P 2 with the lab, and that HCP course to apply. The other classes can be done maybe in the fall of 2011 as you wait to start the program???? Of course ideally you'd want to have everything done before hand since the program is very intense from what I hear and you wouldnt want to take any other classes with it but its an option.

I hope I've helped a bit. =)

Place to see the nclex scores to get the nursing graduation numbers.

I like these schools for south florida. Nova, and Dade. Nova has a very high success rate, that is that come into the program have an excellent chance of graduating, and completing the nclex.Dade has a higher graduation rate than Broward. Cost is affordable. You have to work, but the professors are not antagonistic to the students. School is very helpful to nursing students. They have a simulation center, and ATI affiliation. They also have a tutoring center for the nurses. The ones after that would be Barry. At Barry everyone was personable, and willing to help.

After that is FAU. Not sure about FAU has a one year wait.

After that is FIU. FIU has an exit exam that you get 1 chance to take, you fail, and you do not get a degree.

Broward has a 90% to 80% fail rate once accepted into the program. Depending on the school that means that only 10% to20% make it through. The first semester about 80% of the people drop. Those that graduate get jobs from Broward, but except to graduate with a C average which may not be acceptable if you want a master's degree. The instructors do not treat the students with respect they are antagonistic to students.

You have helped me a lot, thanks. Regarding the certs and the HCP0001 (do I call the school and say I need to take this online?is it expensive?), do I need to ask the adviser permission before I proceed taking them or it doesn't matter? I am very glad that you told me they can be done online. I am sure I can do them in FALL 2011 before I started in SPRING 2012. I figured I would apply there just in case because there aren't many schools near me and I do not want to be traveling very far and BCC is the furthest I would want to travel. BCC I noticed doesn't require Microbiology but the other schools do. I wonder why?

Thanks again.

I checked the website out. Thanks for the information. What the TEAS V exam easy?

I didn't have to take the Teas since I was admitted in the summer time. Also, micro was a required course for me at Broward. Best of Luck. Each school offers something different, just what works out for you.
