MGH Direct NP program 2016

Published

Hey!

Has anyone else applied to this program?! Just got an email that my application was being processed!!

I'm on waitlist as well! I saw that last year, it was around this time that they begin to get back to people.

I was wondering if anyone happens to know how many clinical hours this program has? The requirement in California is apparently higher than out of state. Hope people are hearing back! (:

I got off of the waitlist!

Hey guys! I am trying to decide between the FNP program here (got off the waitlist, woo!) or at Simmons. From what I have gather, both are great programs, so I'm having a lot of trouble deciding! Does anyone know which hospitals clinicals would be in at in MGH? How about student to faculty ratio? Any positive or negative MGH experiences or stories (or at Simmons for that matter)?

Any info is helpful. I would love to make my decision based on what financial aid I am given--but I haven't received this info from either school yet :/

Thanks everyone, and look out fellow wait-listers...more decisions are coming in!

I didn't apply to Simmons but I am currently a second year at the IHP, and clinicals are at MGH for both Med-Surg rotations and a number of sites for Psych, Community, and Peds/Maternity. I had 4/6 at MGH but others got a variety of placements at other hospitals throughout Boston. The student to instructor ratio for clinical is 5/6 students per clinical instructor.

Generally, I've been happy with my experience at the IHP, but the one drawback is that things can be kind of disorganized, especially at the beginning of the semester, so you need to be flexible and communication isn't always the best as to what is going with schedules. However, I've heard that from students at other programs as well. If you didn't receive a scholarship from MGH in your acceptance letter, the financial aid will be made up solely of loans, unless you find outside scholarships yourself.

Hope this helps!

@CharlieNP2b Hey I'm in the same position! I'm having trouble deciding between MGH and Simmons as well. I'm leading towards MGH though because I like that it also provides the BSN. I've heard great thing about both programs so it's very hard to decide. Are you going to the accepted students day at Simmons? Im sure we'll find out a lot of valuable information there to help make a decision!

Congrats @NP2_be ! Unfortunately I have to make a decision before accepted students day at Simmons! But I am also leaning towards MGH too...hoping I receive Simmons' financial aid packet in the mail before then!

Thanks for the helpful insight @AMagoo923!

@NP2_be I had the chance to visit both schools over this past week, and I wound up deciding on MGH. Though both were equally great programs in my mind, the MGH IHP campus was much more appealing to me, and I like that my cohort will be a mix of different NP concentrations. I also like that most of our clinicals for the pre-certification portion of the program will be in one spot (MGH), but that we will get to branch out and experience various different healthcare settings for our NP clinicals. Perhaps this info might be helpful for you when deciding? Anyway, very excited for the fall!

Currently waitlisted for pediatric track. Has anyone heard if they are continuing to invite people from the waitlist? Anxiously checking my email on a daily basis!

On their website it says you could be accepted at any time until around August I think. Depends on if someone in the pediatric track gets off a waitlist elsewhere and decides to go there instead. I got off the waitlist about a week after updating MGH IHP on my pre req grades and some of the research abstracts I contributed to. I would send them an update and hope that bumps you to the next ped track to be taken off the waitlist!

Hi everyone! So I couldn't find a group for 2017 for this program so I thought I would just ask on here! I just finished applying and handed in my application!

I was was just wondering what kind of GPA and stuff everyone who got in had! Anything will be helpful :)

I'm a biology major with a psych minor. I had pretty bad grades but was able to bring up my GPA to a 3.17 and I plan on finishing my degree with a 3.3

I have a B+ in micro, anatomy 1&2, and a C in stats and am currently taking developmental psych and nutrition! I'm currently retaking stats

what do you guys think? Think I'll get in?

Hey Roshhh. The 2017 group is called "MGH IHP DE NP 2017" but unfortunately not many people have posted.

Wish I could answer your questions but I don't know much about the type of students that get accepted. My stats aren't impressive by any means but I'm applying anyway. Good luck!

@blessingoverflow

thanks so much!! I'm so nervous and i really want to hear back from them already!! I had a question, online it said that we can send them an unofficial transcript but then i saw some other peoples posts and they send they sent in a transcript? I was kinda confused because on their website it said that an unofficial transcript is fine and then when you get accepted, you would have to mail them an official copy.
