My daughter is in her mid-20s and is getting ready to move home so she can go back to school for nursing. She was originally going to do an ADN program, but wants to finish quickly so she can return to the metro Atlanta area (we are near Macon). So she is looking at an LPN now, with plans to bridge afterward to an RN. Her ultimate goal is to be a CNM.
My question is, with the terrible job market, will there be LPN jobs available in the Atlanta area (especially in labor/delivery/perinatal) and will she be able to support herself on the pay while she does a bridge program?

Hi Nicubee, Atlanta doesnt hire LPN's for their hospitals at all unless it is in the outpatient clinic.

I don't know of any hospitals that hire LPN's either...mostly LTC, home health sometimes and hospice sometimes, doctors offices. There are a few places for developmentally disabled that hire LPN's but L&D? Can't think of one. Most hospitals have moved away from LPN's and some are shooting for BSN RN exclusively.
Thanks for your replies! I'll let her know that it may not be an option to work L&D until she finishes her RN.

I know of several hospitals in metro Atlanta that will hire LPNs. Check their websites.

I Agree -- there are a great many jobs for LPN's in hospitals. They are not advertised and Northside utilizes them minimally in L&D.

Mainly LTC, home care and hospice.. Every now and then a hospital job will pop up for an LPN. She will have more hospital opportunities in Macon. I should have stayed in Macon for a while I was given the opportunity to work in ER, my dream job.
