Met with recruiter....questions

Published

Hello, I just met with an army medical recruiter and I wondered if some of you could possibly confirm or advise on info given. I have a diploma and was looking for the reserves since the army does not take ADN for active. She told me that I could possibly get my BSN in the strap program that goes up to 24 months starting in July at 1907 per month. Since I have a BS in education I really could get it in a year or 18 months. I think I want to become active at some point so I wonder if this is my best route to do that. Do the program serve the 2-4 years as a reservist based on how long I use the STRAP program. I am wondering if anyone else has a better idea as to going active? I could do an online BSN and then go active by next fall as an option? ANY suggestions would be appreciated plus she told me that nurses deploy for 6 months at time? That seems a little conservative based on what I've seen posted on here so far. Thank you for reading/ replying I appreciate it.:loveya:

i can’t help you when it comes to the strap program or deployment question. here is a little info from the school i went to (gcsu). anyway i am using it as an example all schools differ but this should give you an idea of what you may be facing at a brick and mortar type college.

rn-bsn

the university is a member of the georgia rn-bsn articulation model which accommodates registered nurse students who have completed an associate degree or diploma nursing program and are licensed to practice nursing in georgia. this program option builds on the knowledge and skills of the practicing nurse following completion of the university’s core curriculum (60 hours). rn students who meet gcsu admission requirements for nursing may be admitted as transfer students to the university in any academic term to complete core courses. core courses must be completed prior to enrolling in any nursing courses. rn students then complete 24 semester hours of nursing over 3 part-time semesters, including 2 courses with clinical experiences, to complete degree requirements. these courses are taught at the medical center of central georgia in the evenings. for more information, contact the rn-bsn coordinator at (478) 445-7135.

Thanks for the info. The nice thing is that I can go to the same school I got my BSE in and then I only need 30 hours for a BSN I was just trying to figure out the quickest way to get active.

Is there a reason you quickly want to go active?

Any reason you can't wait, finish school and soak up their bonus(es)??

Deployment would probably screw with your school.......... Just a thought.

Yes I was hoping to move to a first duty station while my kids were young and take them with us before they are older and have ties that make it harder to leave. Do you remember ever moving after about 4th grade? I do and I thought it stunk. Plus my wife and I would love to try to get an overseas station in Europe for a 3-5 year time and take our kids all over Europe and let them see the world.

I think those are pretty good reasons

I'm like you moving as a kid stunk, espically doing it 3 times!

However your point about collecting money and building my education is also not a bad idea. The Strap program actually works out to be a bigger financial incentive even over active bonuses. Oh well I'll figure it out.

i know what you mean, they have sooo many ways of doing things. more money here, there and everywhere, they will help you pay for your education, help with more education, etc.. etc.... it like being a kid in a candy store except this candy has contracts and obligations..

best wishes! your kids should be happy that they have parents will to drag them to europe...

the ability to see the world through young eyes; wow! :yeah:
