Mercy medical center

Published

I'm looking at several hospitals in MD, well, just a few since hopkins called me back. I heard mercy pays great so i'm considering it as well. The thing is they only seem to hire experienced nurses.

Do they hire new grads? A friend got hired about 4 or so months ago and i'm not sure how she got the job because she's moved to MD. She does speak well of the hospital but i'd like to hear other people's opinion as well.

Does anyone know anything about mercy in terms of them hiring new grads? how's it like working there? Any info about their hiring process?

Is downtown baltimore safe? I live in philly and i heard baltimore is actually worse than philly? I live downtown and i don't think philly is that bad. we've got good and bad parts and i'm hoping baltimore is the same. let me know your experiences, especially if you're a new grad currently working for them.

thx

Well, if you're going to try to continue your education at JHU, working for them makes a LOT of sense since they reimburse at much higher rate if you are attending JHU SON.

I myself am looking at hospitals in MD but the only one so far that called me back was JHH and from what I have been reading I guess it isn't all that great but if that is what I get then that is what I get just don't know where else to apply ... live or do anything!:banghead:

JHH is a good hospital. their pay may not be the in the top but they have nice benefits.Personally, I chose to work for a different hospital based on what i wanted. And as the previous person said, they do reimburse at a higher rate if you go to JHU although you should know that after $5,xxx or so bucks, it becomes taxable. Yeah, Uncle Sam has to get his cut;)

aLISEO4: you are welcome!!! I have heard over and over again also that Bayview (also hopkins) is a really nice place to work... I have heard that the ER is great, with a real family atmosphere. The ER has a trauma unit as well. Of course I'm sure major, major trauma's would go to Shock Trauma. Also, as others have pointed out, it would benefit you ($$$), due to working there and going to there school.... Oh,,, also, Bayview has a burnicu that is good. The area around Bayview isn't that bad also. (to live). Good luck and take care...

actually, i looked at an apartment around eastern and folcroft, just a couple blocks from bayview and the place was quiet, it appeared safe. I actually walked to bayview from there and it's short walk. Actually, the apartment was closer to the park so it was about 3 or 4 blocks from eastern ave but it was a nice neighborhood. No shady character or stuff like that.
