I worked there for two months last year...started looking for another job after my second shift. My interview was awesome, the orientation was awesome...I was really excited to be working there, and looking forward to being there for a long time...they talk a good talk, but I found the talk did not translate to real life on the floor. I can only speak for my limited experience on a specific shift/unit (not med/surg)...the rest of the place/people may be fabulous...I had issues with communication (lack thereof/information hoarding), some policies regarding orders that created recognized unsafe conditions that had been going on well before I started there and were still going on when I left, very clique-ish. I cannot imagine ever going back there...in fact, put a bad taste in my mouth for the entire Banner system. Hopefully my experience was an anomaly.

OKAY, I'M A DORK...I hit submit, THEN I realized your question was about Mercy Gilbert, NOT Banner Gateway, cuz the two names sound so much alike. (wish I could read, would make my life so much easier :uhoh3: ). BTW, I have never worked at Mercy Gilbert.

I work at Chandler Regional which is Mercy Gilbert's sister hospital. A number of nurses that I worked with transferred there and they absolutely love it. They say that the hospital was designed to be "nurse friendly." There are nurse workstations outside every room that allows the nurse to sit and chart while she watches her patients through their windows. I've been there during orientation and the atmosphere is very peaceful. There are no overhead pages, cleaning equipment have silencers on them etc...This is all designed to maintain a "calm, healing environment" outside every patient room there is a plaque that states "pause, reflect, heal" to remind you why you are there. They believe in the philosophy of "radical loving care", you can do an internet search in that to find out more about it....Their director of nursing met with us while we were there and she is awesome! She believes that if you "give your nurses the resources and support they need then they will be happy...if you're nurses are happy then they will be able to give quality care to their patients"...I heard that and thought sign me up lol!........As far as bennies...they have a corporate sponsored pension plan as well as a 403b plan.....4th shift is double time, night shift 20% differential, weekends 10% differential, they also have a clinical ladder program: stage one you earn 2.00 more per hour every shift, stage 2 3.00 more and so on....I hope this helps.......

Thanks, the info was very helpful. Do you love Gilbert and is true that its kid friendly? Oh, one silly question, what is 4th shift?

I'm sorry, I meant to say that your 4th day worked in a week...normally you are scheduled 3 12's, any days over 3 are paid at double time....

Gilbert is very kid friendly with lots of opportunities for extrcurricular activities and it has one of the highest ranking public school districts in the state.......

Thanks, I will keep that in mind. I wishI could move there sooner, but I just decided togo back to school for my bachelor's here in Chicago. So i feel like I need to finish it here. Just looking over the forum here, it seem like its very difficult to get into nursing programs there. Im glad to hear that the schools are good there. Because I'll be doing the kid thing for a while again. I started all over again 9 years ago, I have a 9 and 3 year old plus a 21 and 19 year old and their boys. So, I will keep in touch with any questions I have. Thanks again.

Congratulations on going for your BSN.......The long waits here in AZ are for the ADN and traditional BSN progams. There are many RN-BSN programs that have no wait at all. ASU has a program (12 months long) that starts twice a year and Mercy Gilbert also offers a BSN program onsite (one night a week for 18 months) through GCU.....I think they have 3 different start dates/year......With the GCU program all of the billing is done through the hospital so you never have to pay anything out of pocket....Take care and good luck!

HI that is great news to read, I live in Casa Grande and will graduate in March 2009, I really want to work for Chandler Reg, would you mind contacting me I have some qstns. For ex, how are they w/ new grads, is the staff supportive? What area would you suggest a new grad work in? thank you

I used to work there and did not have a very good experience. I'm sure other floors were better, but the floor I worked on had some major issues. They were pretty short staffed so they did not want to give me much time with my preceptor (less than 2 weeks) and no education (and I have a completely different nursing background), which did not seem safe to me. There was a day shift nurse they rushed through to get out on the floor and ended up making many BAD errors... like nursing school 101 errors. There were other issues, but overall I did not want to put myself in that kind of situation. It is a very beautiful hospital and most people there were nice. It was also nice how quiet they liked to keep the place, sometimes it didn't seem like a hospital.
