MERCY COLLEGE NY ABSN FALL 2021

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello, I am currently enrolled at Mercy college ( BS PSYCH) upon completion I hope to apply to the accelerated nursing program. I contacted the school for more information, they recently told me applications for the Summer program are due march 1st 2021 (I graduate in may) which means for the Summer I will be deferred until later semesters if accepted anyway.

I am wondering if anyone have any details into the program? Looking to apply in the near future ect.

My pre requisite grades are not the best but I hope I get in.

GRADES

A&P I ....... A

A&P II....... B

MICRO......B+

DEV. PSYCH ......B+

CHEM......C+ ( I struggled terribly with this course and it has been my lowest science grade )

STATS.....A-

NUTRITION.....A-

because this is my first semester at mercy, I don't have a current GPA but I hope it makes the mark....

I'm currently in my second semester at Mercy and I really enjoy it. Sometime it can be a bit unorganized, but the teachers are really great and helpful. As for clinical most of them are in the Bronx and Westchester. I use public transportation. I was able to use public transportation for the most part but I had a Westchester clinical but you make a lot of friends so one of my friends is driving me to one of my clinical the second half of my second clinical as the second semester is split for Maternity and Peds.

Good to know you are liking it so far.

A lot of people have this same concern. The truth is that clinical sites are not so specific, they might not be able to tell you which one you will get ( they are on a first come first serve basis). The majority of them are in the Bronx. from my experience, for the 1st and second semesters, clinical is just once a week.

Thank you so much for sharing. ?

Since, I don't have a personal mean of transportation, this is the thing that scares me the most. I wish they had all the sites listed although they could change but not knowing the location at all is making me worried especially in Westchester. I hope if I get into the program & I can make lot of friends (introverts nightmare) LOL. Also heard clinical is once a week in first year so manageable.

But thank you so much for sharing. ?

.... clinical mainly in the Bronx and Westchester,

sorry I do not know much about public transportation

That is okay. I hope I will get lucky but as you said once a week for first year should be okay.

Thank you very much!!

I don't have have any transportation either, but I do think you can make it work. Your first semester will be a nursing home. I did St. Vincents my first semester and learned a decent amount (had a lot of hands on experience with patients). It is once a week. I moved to the bronx as well which made transportation a bit easier for me. I wish you the best of luck!!

Oh whao. Thank you so so much. As I live in Queens, NYC, I think I am good with Bronx locations and for others will have to work it out. And knowing, you being in the same situation as me can work it out, really helped me. "I can do it too".

Also wanted to ask some question, if I am not bothering you a lot.

1. We don't have classes on the day of clinical right?

2. I work as a medical assistant twice a week. Do you think I can keep/manage  my work along with classes as Mercy is 18 months program or you think otherwise?

No bother at all! We don't have the clinical the same day as classes. You might fight the first semester a bit overwhelming as it is a bit test heavy, but I know a lot of people who worked at managed it. I started working this semester part time and have been balancing it fine. A lot of this is time management, so once you get in the swing of things I'm sure you will feel a lot less stressed.

Thank you so much for sharing all these information and answering my queries. I really really appreciate it.
