Mercer ends CRNA program

Okay so I am contemplating the idea of going to CRNA school after I finish my bachelors and get 2-3 years in ICU. I live in GA, actually about 30 miles from mercer's main campus which would be awesome, but I looked at there website and they are no longer offering the CRNA program that was affiliated with the Medical Center of Central GA. MCCG's website states that they have terminated the program and will no longer be accepting applications for future classes and Mercer's website states that they will not enroll candidates for admission this year. Does anybody know what is going on and whether or not Mercer has plans to start up another program? Thanks in advance.

I would also like to know why. Their newsletter, "The Circuit," didn't make any mention of it in their Spring '11 edition...

Yes I was also quite surprised by the news.

I'm not sure what to make of the situation, but from an average laypersons view, the announcement to end the affiliation between Mercer and MCCG was very sudden. No mention of it in the newsletter, only a message posted to Mercer and MCCGs website saying the affiliation would end without any further explanation at this time. Even the use of the wording "terminated" on MCCG's page doesn't really 'pain't the picture very bright.' :uhoh3:

While someone can only guess or speculate as to what is the situation at hand, one can't help but get the impression that something is not going well for such a large affiliation to end with such little public notice.

Hopefully the program will not be ultimately closed, but only time will tell.

After being a medical student in Mercers medical school for almost 4 years, I can certainly say that the medical school faculty are ABUSIVE to many of their students. Good ridence to Mercer and their CRNA program. they got what they deserved. MCCG made the right choice by telling the "pack of wolves" known as Mercer university school of medicine professors to go to hell by ending their CRNA program. Now let's just pray the same fate happens to Mercers medical school program. (after i geaduate this year of course) Hooray! You would find me dancing in the street!

There was a financial difference between Mercer and MCCG from what I understand. They are graduating the current students and MCCG is looking at other options to open the program. Current rumors are a satellite program run by Northeastern or a second campus for GHSU (MCG).

Haha. I'm a 3rd year Medical student from Mercers med school and I stumbled upon this page by accident. I'm supposed to be studying for my shelf right now but I just had to comment on this thread. Yup, I agree with Hybridcam, Mercer mistreats it's students dearly. Especially Dr.Jerome Tift. If you only casually interact with Dr.Tift he comes across as the most charming and nice professor. Do not let him fool you!! This is simply "a mask" he puts on. I assure you this is not his true self. He will wine and dine you with his charming personality and then say horrible things behind your back and throw you in front of a train when no one is looking and blame the whole thing on someone else. Do not revel any person information about yourself to him, do not chit chat with him, do not take any gifts from him, do not negotiate any deals without your family in the room to act as your witness. Do not trust him!! Just had to get that out after reading this post. Thanks.

Now I'm curious of what exactly was the "financial difference"

i know FOR A FACT that their medical school deliberately flunks it's students out and then blackmails them that they have to "donate" back to their program after they graduate in order to finish the program. Sure sounds like blackmail to me!

Very interesting. If all this is true, then good riddance. Definitely doesn't sound like a school that's producing quality CRNA's.
