GCSU FNP Summer 2015
I actually graduated from the program last May. It was fantastic. If you are starting this coming May I will actually be at immersion week to talk to you all about the program.

I am doing the full-time program. As far as campus requirements....all of them take place at the macon campus since that is the graduate campus for GCSU. There is a 1 week orientation at the very beginning of the program that is mandatory and then there is a 1 week lab immersion week that you will have during advanced assessment that is mandatory. All exams are given on campus, but you may set up a proctor ahead of time and take your exam where you are located. There has only been 1 mandatory campus day for this semester (which is my 2nd semester). I think the campus visits have been quite reasonable. They try to utilize WebEx as much as possible which is an online meeting host. I'm not sure about campus requirements in the coming semester as i haven't gotten that far. If you live that close, I would definitely consider GCSU over UAB, just for the sheer convenience. I know every program has their issues and GCSU's program certainly is not without fault, but it hasn't been a horrible experience and the time is flying by. Good luck in your decision.

If your GPA is high, then try not to worry too much about the GRE. Just do your best on it. They are not looking for any particular minimum score. I was incredibly nervous about the interview as well and those worries turned out to be all for not. It wasn't a very long interview at all and it was 1:1, although I believe they have done panel interviews in the past. As far as the personal essay, that's exactly what it is, personal. Just tell them a little about yourself, why you want to be a NP, and why you think GCSU is the best program for you. I am loving it so far. It is the perfect amount of online learning, with a little hands-on stuff thrown in. I'm extremely happy with my decision to go there. Good luck with your journey!

Lab Values Help
WBC levels may be elevated before any sign of incision site infection is present. I don't believe HCG levels are drawn routinely. I know we have had patients readmitted after delivery with uncontrolled lady partsl bleeding and usually an ultrasound confirms that there is still "products of conception" left. I am not in L&D, but the floor I work on is a post op gu/gyn floor and we routinely get pregnant women (who have not reached the 20 week mark to be admitted to L&D) and women who are status post delivery that may be experiencing complications.

Should I get my ACLS?
I work on a med/surg floor that does not require ACLS, however, I was allowed to take ACLS through our education department. I didn't have to pay for the class, but I didn't get paid to go either. I feel like in a situation like that, it can't hurt to have it on a resume, especially if you ever want to transfer to ER or Critical Care.

Nursing Pins
We were required to buy a pin in order to participate in our pinning ceremony. It is indeed still in the box in a drawer somewhere.

WGU Proctored Testing Question
Wasn't saying that you would cheat, just saying that they do make you scan the room and will shut off your test if they feel it has been compromised (i.e. someone walks in, children running around, you answer the doorbell, etc,). Good luck with everything. I for one loved their entire program and I'm sure you will too.

WGU Proctored Testing Question
Definitely not open book, note, etc. The webcam proctors require you do a 360 degree scan of the room prior to starting your exam to make sure you have no notes or anything. They can also cut your exam off if they suspect you are cheating.

Just Finished WGU RN-BSN
I did mine on HIV prevalence. I did a lot of interviews with the health department, the local college health center, key members of the community, physicians and nurses at the job clinic that serves the area, church clergy, support groups, and just various other sites. Use the CDC and WHO website for data if you are doing it on a specific disease process.

Way to go! Which classes do you have left? Make sure you speak with your mentor and financial aid about prorating your tuition for your second term since you only have 7 CU's left.
