Hi, I'm a new grad that registered as a practical nurse in the London Ontario area in July. I consolidated in mental health and loved it. This is the area I want to work. I have been applying to mental health jobs since becoming registered but have had zero responses. I enrolled in a mental health nursing certificate program and have been working away at that. Is there anything else I can do to make myself more appealing?

just keep applying. Also if you haven't done this yet. apply to a casual position for any position available in the same company that way you build seniority then you can just transfer into mental health if there's an opening.

Apply apply apply. Just keep at it and apply to every job that comes up no matter what the experience asked for is. Become familiar with the mental status exam, try to learn about the most common mental illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar, major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, ect. Become familiar with doing suicide risk assessments. And start learning the psych meds like loxapine, seroqul, olanzapine. And if you haven't already give some thought to what area of mental health nursing you want to work in.

Hey @JillianMillian
I did my mental health placement at waypoint and believe me I loved it. I have also been applying and applying and they asking for more training. I'm looking forward to taking a mental health certification from either mohawk or Durham College. You can try waypoint up North or hamilton area as well as they have lots of facilities too.
Are you currently taking a mental health courses at mohawk or Durham? We can both connect if you don't mind. I love mental health too and looking forward in taking the certification. Do send me an email
