Mental Health Care

Specialties NP

Looks like I will have an added mental health responsibility... I have always had contact with many mental health patients in my past and present jobs. My primary jobs though was management of the medical side of their care with acknowledgment of their mental health care for the most part. Now things are probably going to be changing, I apparently will be delving deeper into the mental health care aspect of things also.

I am asking for information on study, CEU, etc., so I can start immersing myself more..

Elaborate please.

Well for the most part every job I have had many patients on my case load that were mental health. I actually had to do a consult (which was immediate or up to five days later) if I saw a mental health issue. I wrote out my observations and diagnosis and it was up to those in mental health side of the world to do the rest. My protocols actually prevented me from ordering mental health medications.

That looks to be changing. It looks like actual mental health diagnosing and treating will now be added. Not saying I won't have to / get to refer... Except for the medication part it's nothing I have not been doing in a fashion but I still want to focus studies for awhile....

If you're already a NP, your BON might require you to be a PMHNP to diagnose and prescribe for psych patients.
