   quick question..ive never worked with lvns til I moved to TX sooo can anyone explain to me why the LVN cannot do an initial assessment but is competent to do later assessments either we trust their skills or we dont what is up with that!!!

   I work couplet care ..all new pts(mom and baby) have an initial assessment by an RN and every 24 hour thereafter..I would never sign someone elses assessment without doing it myself and if thats what needs to be done why even assign the LVN the pts...

   when i worked in New jersey you could only legally do 18 hours straight not sure about Tx where I live now...bottom line I think anything over 18 hours and Im just asking for trouble...mistakes happen!
