medsurg nurses please tell me what a med surg/telemetry nursing assistant does?

Hi,

So I got the call today that I got the nursing assistant position. I guess its for telemetry/med surg. (when I applied thought it said med teaching) Can please someone tell me what I will be doing? Not really familiar with those titles. Especially telemetry. When I went into the interview last Wednesday I applied for 2 different floors on days. Sunday I saw that the maternity na position was opened to the public, and I applied right away. When the women called today offering me the telemetry/med surg position, I was afraid to mention that to her. I just emailed her (if she even reads it) and said that I was glad to hear from her today and was grateful for the position, but was inquiring if the maternity position was still open (its up). Is it true that if its union depending what department you work in the pay is different? If so, which floor would make more out of the two? Im still hoping to interview for this pediatric office (medical assistant) soon..and decide between the two if the peds office is offered to me....before I get the official letter from the hospital. I graduated with an A.A.S. in medical assisting in December 2010. Thanks for your help!

At the hospital that I work at on the medical telemetry floor the nurse aids check routine vitals, give baths, provide hygiene, toileting, emptying foley's, helping with meals, answering call lights, etc. really a variety of things. You learn and see alot.

Ours do all the jobs of a unit clerk. They also get training to read EKG's and know when to contact the RN. We do not have many CNA's as monitor techs because their other duties keep them from the monitors too long. However, some are cross-trained and do one job today and another tomorrow. Good idea to be versatile. Makes you more impt to the facility
