Meditech & OB TraceVue Interface

Published

We have both the Meditech and OB TraceVue Systems and need a way for them to communicate. Only L&D has OB TraceVue and therefore all info has to be put into Meditech too. Any one know it there is an interface out there? Or, does anyone know of an individual or company who will develop such a product?

Appreciate any information!

What sorts of interfacing does Meditech support? How are other systems communicated w/ Meditech?

Theoretically an interface can be created between any two systems...... the question is has it been done between these two systems before? The vendors should be able to tell you that. The other BIG questions are: how long will it take to build it? how much will it cost? Vendors are famous for saying "oh yea we can build it" then 3 years and several capital dollars later reporting "we're still testing it out" or "yea it works but not the way we wanted it to".

The answers to the above quetions may make the venture cost or time prohibitive. Additional questions might be: do you want a bi-directional or uni-directional interface?

Exactly what data are you re-entering into Meditech as I assume Meditech is your primary HIS (Health Information System) and contains demographic and ADT (Admission, Discharge, Transfer) information. Are you rekeying in nursing documentation?

We have both meditech and OBTV. HP has a cable developed for Columbia/HCA but it is not available for other places...THIS is info' from the IS person where I work. It is a LTP? I believe.

It was said to be bi-directional. Iatrix also is working to devlop one.

We don't document in OBTV since it doesn't export to meditech at this time. HP did tell us that meditech can co-reside on the OBTV screens but they didn't advise it. It also depends on which revision of OBTV you have.

It's certainly an issue to transfer paper info into meditech.

I actually like the latest upgrades of meditech. It allows more ease of movement in the nursing module. It is more windows' based.

I do not like HP but am surrounded by it everywhere I look.

YIKES! :coollook:

Philips now owns OB TraceVue

They have developed a complete inteface to Meditech for ADT as well as outbound vital signs, assesments, medications, to all HIS systems.

the Meditech interface is in need of an interface engine. Philips is capable of supplying one if the Hospital does not have one. Check with your local rep for this option.

I am new to ALLNURSES.com so my response will be very untimely... however pertinent to todays dilemma of integrating disparate applications, regardless of which vendor application it is. At MUSE three weeks ago there was a vendor present that discussed the steamlining of our clinical workflows where all we had to do was log into our stations with a single password that would provide us access to "all" applications within and outside of Meditech, presenting a single window to view all of our patient data from the Lab, Radiology, PACS, etc. Led me to believe I could knock-off 2 hr's of my day looking for patient information.

Great answer Angela!

I am new to ALLNURSES.com so my response may be very untimely... however pertinent to todays dilemma of integrating disparate and even non-disparate applications, regardless of which vendor application it is. As for the price and services to make this happen that is always a consideration and nothing is as simple as it seems to be. All HIS vendors want us to believe in the single vendor solution as being the answer to all of our problems at a $10 million price tag, but in reality they only put the desktops at our stations with limitations on how we access our patient information across those applications. There are vendors out there who are agnostic to the various applications on the market with their open architecture that can make our lives easier... your comments are accurate, we just need to determine the associated ROI in doing our due diligence in determining what's real and affordable. This vendor cited a Meditech facility of theirs who has accomplished what we are looking to accomplish.

Our facility recently began using a product by InterfacePeople. They have an ODBC interface product designed specifically for use with Meditech. The group who designed the product suite were former Meditech employees. Here is the website link
