I was doing an NCLEX review CD-ROM and got this question. Am I missing something fundamental here or is it a typo? Why would I change 0.45 mg to 450 mg?
the question reads (summarized) "Zithromax is ordered 0.45 mg. You have a vial of powder 500 mg, reconstitute in 4.8 mL, med displaces 0.2 mL. What volume of reconstituted med would the nurse add to the IVPB?
It says the answer is 4.5 mL. But wouldn't that result in a dose of 450 mg, not 0.45 mg. I'm thinking maybe the stem should have said the order is 0.45 g not mg and it's a typo. Not to mention 0.45 mg of Zithromax is less than what they'd order for even a child. Right?? If I'm wrong about this then I seriously need to consider postponing my NCLEX date.
Thank you! I just needed someone to tell me I wasn't crazy! I wouldn't expect that big of an error on a NCLEX review CD-ROM that people pay good money for.
