Medication Administration Skills Test

Published

Hey,

"I need Help." I'm freaking out now because I have one more chance to pass the medication administration return demonstration. (skills check) The first time I failed it is because I ran out of time, I didn't even get to my patient's bedside because I spent too long looking up the drugs, we have an hour for the entire test, to Look up Drugs, do the calculations, Prepare the medications, and Administer the Medications. And I was wondering if anybody had any tips for administering and preparing

IM injections

SUBQ Injections

PEG medications

IV Priming and Hanging (using gravity)

I'm incredibly nervous now because I really don't want to fail, it's just I know what I'm doing, but what killed me last time was looking up the drugs, and also I kept withdrawing air from a vial with my needle even though there was alot of medication in the vial, and had no idea why. This happened to me alot, and my time was gone just trying to fix it. :-(

yeah so any tips please? :-)

first of all.. and this is going to sound dumb... but slow down.

b4 you go in, do you have someone that you can verbally practice with? if you have to verbalize it it makes your brain think a different way, and it will stick better. Make sure you know your stuff before you go in!! do one thing at a time. what i jmean by that is, do all your injectables first, then all nasal.. ect....that way you will have everything done in order so you are not going back to grab needles every other med.

I dont really know what else to say. but i wanted to try and give you a couple tips that may help.. PM me ifyou have any questions...i would IM with you if you wanted. let me know & if not GL!!
