Medicare guidline for mediport

Published

hi, i have a medicare question---does medicare pay for nursing to flush mediport monthly to maintain an unused port.

i have always been able to keep patients on to do this, but am being told now we can only do it for 3 mos, then must discharge unless they have medicaid, then medicaid will pay....i can not find anywhere in writing to this medicare policy.

thanks in advance!!!

hi all--disregard the above thread, i found the answer in some old postings

thanks anyway

what was the answer? I just started homehealth and you got me curious because I have the same type of patient.

i read that medicare will pay for 90 days only...i dont understand and i cant find the documentation to that,

if someone does, i would love to read it. thanks

I have heard that too but have never seen it in writing. Would like to see the regs or whatever to confirm that. I guess there must be something to it if we have all heard that, but I swear there are a lot of HH "myths" out there.
