I am currently in the process of applying for the Army Nurse Candidate program. I was hyperthyroid in the first half of 2010, but my numbers are now in the normal range, and I have never taken medication for it. Has anyone heard of someone getting a waiver for a history of hyperthyroid? My recruiter told me they are a little more lenient with medical personnel.
I just found out that I have to have everything in by Oct 12th, and I will be to old after this cycle to apply, so I am franitcally getting everything together (They just lowered the max age to 34). I feel like I may be wasting my time, because I will probably be medically disqualified, but I really want to be a military nurse, so I figure I have to at least try!
The answer will always be no if you don't try. And you can always get a waiver for age. You will probably find out pretty quickly during your physical if you need a waiver, but if your test results come back good, that will certainly help! Good luck!
I am medically disqualified, but not for the thyroid. I took a perscription for headaches for a few weeks, and that did me in. The good news is that once it has been 3 years, I can try again.
New plan is to finish school, get two years of experience, and try for a direct commission. :)
