Medical Terminology Class?

Published

How hard would you say the Medical Terminology class was? I am starting it in a month and I am currently JUST doing gen eds until I start nursing in Spring 2011. Would you say the class is rather boring? Hard? I am very excited to start the class but some people dont like it.

Thanks for your opinion.

I wouldn't say that it was hard. I found it easy actually.

I do have a medical background though. So maybe I am not the best help.

If it matters eveyone in our class passed.

I found medical terminology an easy A for me. Medical terminology is like learning a language, but a lot easier I think.

I'm currently taking medical terminology, but I also took veterinary medical terminology while in veterinary technician school a couple of years ago. For the most part it has been similar. Even when I took it the first time, I found it to be very easy. A nice break from the more difficult classes. It is mainly memorization, and when you learn all the prefixes and suffixes it becomes easier and easier to find the meaning of new terms. Good luck!:)

It's not bad, it's like someone else said, just focuse mainly on the prefixes and suffixes and it should be an easy A. Make some flashcards and just run through them once or twice a day or however many times it takes for you and you will be fine. I have an iphone so I use iflashcards which makes it real easy to carry them all around. Good Luck.

its easy. its like learning a new language. somethings sound like they'd make sense but dont. make flash cards and review x100 u'll do fine :)

I thought it was really easy, and it was fun, figuring out what the words meant once you had the pre-fixes and suffixes down. And, hey, it's easier to understand what is going on when you watch 'House' and 'Grey's Anatomy' now! :jester: Seriously, though, I think it really helped me to take it. I was also taking A&P II and Intro to Nursing at the same time, and I felt like it helped me to pick up those classes better. Especially once an instructor starts rattling off abbreviations, or you see them in a chart- you will already know what they mean when they say 'CXR', 'TURP', or 'CABG'.

My instructor for med. term. also teaches for the Medical Coding (?) program, and has worked in many different medical offices doing that work. She had some GREAT stories to tell about things she saw! Very entertaining in class...

Medical terminology is IMHO THE MOST helpful class of all. If you know your root words, prefixes and suffixes you can know what the word means, what it refers to and what system of the body you are in! On tests, if you know your terms, you can figure out difficult questions. It's extremely important. Of course I was a teacher in my previous life and love words and reading, but if you're going to school for something and you are going to work, you have to know the lingo. It's the base of the whole course work! Go in with a good attitude and you'll soon be speaking like a pro and impressing everyone. :)

Thanks for all your opinions. I feel SO much more confident to go into the class now then I had felt before. You guys give such great advice and are so helpful.

Good luck with your nursing career and college career! You guys are amazing.
